On a more serious note, re dealing with Hawthorn, would the following be in the ballpark?

Pruess for pick 43 and a swap of the remaining 2nd and 3rd round picks to sweeten the deal for us.

We get:

  • Pick 43
  • Pick 21
  • Pick 41

Give up:

  • Preuss
  • Pick 23
  • Pick 47

Obviously only considering the above if no other clubs offer a 2nd round pick.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but i'm interested to hear what people think if we swapped Preuss for Josh Schache? Bulldogs prefer Bruce and Naughton as their talls but need an experienced ruck to help out English and we need another key forward. Schache was a former #2 draft pick in 2015 and although he hasn't set the world on fire, he's only 23 years old and a good height at 199cms. Having Weideman, Schache and Jackson as our tall forwards could be a really damaging forward line for the next decade.

I know we could command a second round pick for Preuss, so we could also do a pick swap as well if people are sitting on the fence.

general vibe from dogs supporters i know is that schache doesn't have it in him to make it in the afl and will likely be paid out at the end of this season

I don’t know how, but if some kind of arrangement can be made, I would be happy if Pruess ended up at Hawthorn, and we ended up with Smith.

Talent just doesn't leave you, I think he just needs a good run at it the same with Weid did and he'll show something. Bulldogs will take Jamarra Ugle-Hagan in the draft so you think we could swap Schache for Omac?

Hawks supporters I talk to think Smith is on way out has lost some speed and at 32 marginal selection

not outside the realms of possibility but probably unlikely

also o mac >>>> schache at afl level, which says a lot about how far schache's stocks have fallen

being a key forward taken at the pointy end of the draft is littered with failures over the last ten years, be it through commitment, application, injury or disinterest in afl - see watts, day, patton, boyd, mccartin, schache

interestingly the last two taken in the top 3 of their drafts - lukosious and jackson - have been earmarked for different roles, be it half back playmaker in the former's case or ruck / forward / half forward combo player in our boy's case

Schache will likely be delisted and then potentially rookied. We shouldn't bother with him. While he performed well underage as a tall kid, he's uncompetitive at AFL level and makes Weid look like Wayne Carey.

Better to look for other options like Brown or Mihocek.

The rumour mills (reliable or not) suggest that the suitors are GWS, Sydney, Hawthorn

Their respective currency in terms of trade picks stands as:

GWS: 28 46 66

SYD: 3 22 54 56

HAW: 4 21 41 43 59 67

What permutations, including player trades, would you consider fair value?

Seemed to leave Jordan Gysberts pretty quickly... and Jack Grimes... and Cale Morton... amongst others.

Why??

Swapping an in demand 25yo ruckman for a 32yo, surely we’ve gone  past recycled old premiership players

Sydney, GWS & Hawthorn are after him & he’s got 2 years left on his contract, play hardball with him & we should get overs

tough on Jack Grimes.More a case of injury coming rather than talent leaving .Jack until his foot problems was a very talented player .

If they all want him, get one of them to give up 28,22, or 21

You'd imagine GWS would "want" him the most given the list they have. Sure the other clubs would want a #1 ruck but further away from the "window"

I'd much prefer a player.  I only want a draft pick if it helps us trade in a player.

Not sure what else you can do with a draft pick other than use it to get a player.

You can use it in a trade for an established player (my strong preference in this case - "trade in a player") or use it in the draft.  There is a significant strategic difference.

Do you think we will get better than a late 2nd/early 3rd for Pruess? Also who are you thinking of on our other wing?

I've mentioned it before in this thread. I would love Xavier O'Halloran from GWS. We might need to throw in a small sweetener to get it over the line.

Otherwise, I think the club should be looking at future picks and continue avoiding this draft.

Personally, if it was GWS, I would give them Pruess & the Hawks 2nd rounder for Bobby Hill, but I doubt it would happen

I’d use it and our other 2nd round pick and whatever else is necessary to make points match to package up to the Bulldogs for pick 13.

GWS, Sydney & Hawthorn all have pics in the 20s I’d be pushing for that

If Smith was 29-30 I’d jump at it but 32 & injuries in the 2nd half of 2020, huge question mark

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
