Is it just me or is scheduling just the one game of footy on a Saturday, and that one game being 1st v 17th is woefully crap scheduling by the AFL.

Port having no issues “turning up” to the game tonight despite flying in from Adelaide this morning. Wish Melbourne could have done the same.

Yes this just makes our loss even more unforgivable.

Port are not following the script. They are supposed to be tired and listless after air travel and playing on the same day.

Good clubs don’t make excuses.

We continue to make excuses and remain a loser club.

This is why i find it amazing with Posters on here who say “We have had a problem doing this for 10 years”

No it actually goes back a lot further than that. Different People, but same problems.
Win a few and then fall over badly....

Of course not that it matters, but Port last played a week ago at home, not in Alice Springs, 5 days ago, flying home at 3.00 am and they are at a one day advantage of recovery on their opponent who played 6 days ago.

Oh and BTW they are better than us, quicker than us and also better coached, not that that should matter either.

On my estimate of Port it appears we have 5 players who are As good as the corresponding players at Port. After that we drop away substantially. Surely after 14 games this year Dees supporters can see we are only a mid level Talented team. Poor delivery equals poor results which must be the only thing we do consistently well.

Can't argue on the second bit but maybe a small argument on the first point.

What's the difference between excuses and reasons @Lord Travis?

Interested to hear it Mr Leg.

Excuse seeks to justify failure and avoids accountability and change.

Reason seeks to acknowledge and accept a fault, the first step to positive change.

The club can beat its chest and make all the excuses it wants. The reality is this club has been a failure for over 50 years and it doesn’t appear like we’re making great strides to changing the weak mentality that’s plagued us.

Some people are pointing to 3 states in 5 days or whatever as an excuse. We’re not the only club to have done this. Others have done it and still won. It’s not a valid excuse, and the club and it’s supporters need to demand more if we ever want to become successful again.

A bit circular - why would a good club need to make excuses or even look for reasons for being poor?

I think the bolded comment is far more the reason for our erratic performance than 'a poor culture going back 50 years'.  I doubt if culture in footy teams could transmit unchanged down so many generations of players and admins anyway.

After dabbling with the ladder predictor recently, I can confirm that the Saints losing this is a very good result for our chances of making the 8.

They’re so good that if they drop this and if the Dogs don’t beat anyone above them, then we could potentially only need to win against the bombers to make the 8, but only if the Giants also beat the Saints. A win against the Giants/Freo for us as well would almost guarantee it.

That reminds me of Dame Edna interviewing meatloaf. He was addressed as Mr loaf?

Oh that old  necessity of Dees supporters pulling out the old math books and going over the permutations and combinations of other team results to ascertain any finals action.

Gawn, May, Petracca, Oliver, Langdon, Brayshaw, Lever and Salem are probably our best and the 3 newbies all look good.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
