Ed Langdon on SEN (31/08/20)

Absolutely love this guy and think output in relation to cost he has been a much better pick up than Hill.

A thoughtful but unexciting interview.  Illustrates how much man management is a part of the modern coach's lot is.

Langdon is a runner. We definitely need him and also another 1-2 similar types that run. Ideally excellent skills.

Langdon does also like to kick rather than handball.  He gains metres and creates opportunities.  This year he has had 250 possessions- 150 kicks 100 handballs.
Contrast to Harmes who has 180 possessions- 80 kicks and 100 handballs.  Harmesy needs to kick it more rather than be a handball centred player who sometimes puts his teammates under the pump.

‘Langers’ is probably 6th in B&F behind Trac, Max, Clarry, Mayzy and JV.

Very good point.

He also has the knack of being in space at the right time. A very valuable addition.

I would imagine Harmes' kick:handball ratio is like it is due to our game plan coming out of defence being to get the ball in to the hands of the better kickers (is Salem, May and Hibberd).

I think he'll be higher. You often see guys come to a club and when their output is up it seems to be rated more highly than incumbents. Just a hunch but I think he'll surprise on the upside..

Ripping bloke.  Owning that wing and sure beats some of the stop gap measures trialled through here in 2019.

Challenge now is to find a complimentary cracker jack on the other wing.

All power to Mr Ed

Oscar Baker?

Possibly at some point Bobby.  I could be wrong, but 2021 more likely if he is still on the list at that stage (i'm not sure where his contract is at).  I reckon he would've needed a run at it before now, especially with the injury issue pre-season but who knows!

He does and it's noticeable beyond the stats.

I don't know if it's a lack of composure/risk aversion or under instruction - but if we're being defensively pressured and hand-balling in circles he'll most commonly run to a bit of space and dump it down the line as a release valve. I don't think it's always the best option (rather than methodically working through it and launching off half-back/through the middle) but it usually brings some relief.

His work rate is tremendous - the tackle at the end of the 4Q to put Steele off his kick was fantastic. I’ve loved his work - he also looks like he has a lot of fun when he plays.

Only downside to Langdons great season is that hes not owning the wing on the MCG in front of 50k supporters.

Cant wait to see that!

I thought his answer on hub life was interesting. As an introvert, being around “the boys” 24/7 sounds like hell to me, and while pro sport tends to be an extrovert’s game, I did wonder if there would be a few who found it tough going. I fully empathise with you Ed!

He mentioned that his kicking is at career best level. I’ve spent all year wondering what all the hoopla was about his kicking, because what I’ve seen has been of no concern at all. I was expecting the biggest butcher since Simon Godfrey. Maybe he’s just improved on previous years.

Really excited about the back end of the season with Ed.

The one kick he did short across his body in the first quarter to hit up melksham on the inside in between 3 saints was sublime. He had nothing on down the wing and it resulted direct in a Weideman goal rather than a turnover

He's not a great kick but he has good composure & decision making so he rarely will actually turn it over

Contracted till end 2021. Pretty sure he was named as an emergency for Saturday night so can’t be too far off. Given a full pre season think he could do some good next year
