I thought Charlie's tackling was fantastic. Isn't that what we want our players to do? We are always yelling 'tackle them!'

If Martin or Dangerfield do it they are praised no end. What is going on. Does Melbourne play in some sort of AFL parallel universe?

IMO the players we need to be pushing up the ground more are Hannan and Melksham. Hannan's a good mark and helps with our scoring chains when he gets up the ground. Melksham's kicking is vital to breaking down good zones.

Spargo and Pickett (and players who come in to play that smaller role) I'm happy to see stay a bit deeper, both feeding off the contests created by Weideman/Brown/Gawn/etc. and pressuring their ball carriers in our forward 50.

Either way, we need more from our forwards as it's not sustainable to rely on Petracca dominance like last night.

Long term I'm reasonably confident that Kozzie & LJ will provide some answers but we still need a KPF and a good defensive forward if we're going to challenge.

Weideman is developing ok and I haven't given up on T-Mac just yet.  Brown is back up.

Fritsch & Melksham can both be much better but it is up to both of them to get the best out of themselves.

Playing forward these days means playing in crowded situations a lot of the time.  So it isn't easy but we need to find the right mix.

Meanwhile,  the make up of the midfield and backline are more than adequate.  Not perfect but both areas aren't of great concern.

The centre circle is a 10 metre diameter for reference.

Quite a bit od parallax there - would add another 50% = 15 meters.

Still, can't expect a maggot to understand that, especially when no doubt instructed to add a bit to reverse kicks in the dying stages of games.

I still feel that 'no mark' for backwards kicks would move the game on and stop some of these negative tactics.

A lot of discussion about Jack Viney missing the team song but what about Brown not being in the middle of the team circle. It was Brown’s first win at the Dees and he should have been showered with Gatorade. Who is responsible for this ongoing mess... do we need to introduce a roll call? It is Goody’s fault? Surely this must be sorted out if we are going to play finals!

Harmes was dropped and Goody didn’t even speak to him, Viney held onto a poo for the whole last quarter and missed the song now we have Brown not being showered in Gatorade. Clubs a mess.

The first thing you mentioned is an issue if it's true.

The Number 2 issue is a load of [censored]

The third one is not such a big deal for a veteran/journeyman.

I was serious about the poo. You could see him clenching as he was running, it was more of a shuffle really.

Might have explained Viney’s lack of run in the last quarter. He seemed to be grimacing as he walked off the ground.

C'mon we've all been there. Think of it as a bonding experience, something all can relate to.

Teachers use to tell me I had Aspergers, I always thought they were calling me an AssBurger though.

Currently watching the replay (qtr time). It didn't look good in the first 5 mins. Butler & Hill finding space and Membrey getting off the leash. 2 elements of fortune in Petracca's 2 goals. The actual infringement for the free kick was about 55m out but the umpire had the guy on the mark at 51m. The holding the ball against Zac Jones that led to Petracca's second goal was pretty stiff. It's was nice to be able to capitalize on a bit of good fortune

BOG ROLL VOTES:
Harmes #1
Viney #2
Brown #3 (honorable mention for number 2 due to the colour in his surname)...

That's nothing.

My reports were always full of F's ,Ds's and C's . Which I thought was shorthand.

Was involved in a heavy clash within the last minute of the siren.

Heard that the club’s dietician has been questioned over Viney’s diet. Some doubt that Viney will play against the Swans. Will need to pass a test before being passed fit to play.

A date with destiny, you might call it

  3. Richmond - 4-1
  4. West Coast - 4-1
  5. Brisbane - 4-1
  6. Port Adelaide - 4-1

  8. St Kilda - 3-2
  9. GWS - 3-2
  10. Fremantle - 3-2

  12. Carlton - 2-3
  13. Gold Coast - 1-1-3
  14. Essendon - 1-1-3
  15. Hawthorn - 1-4

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
