Out: Gawn Viney ANB

I’d have In: rivers, Pickett Hannan

They are 189, 188 and 170 cm. you don't think any of them are a little short to replace 208 Gawn?

Love all these options. Unsure we can execute such dramatic changes in 4 days when we couldn’t execute basic kicking with an entire summer of practice.

They do say necessity is the mother of invention and sometimes I think you need to be put in that position where you have no other alternative than to take the leap of faith to try something new.

The other potential eventuality is that we just stick with the same kick in strategy and substitute Max with say T Mac or May.

I know, just look at 2018, is it raining where you are?

The sign of a good team, is the ability to cover injuries to top players, let's see how we go before looking for a cliff top

Sparrow gets his opportunity for more minutes, we are not exactly throwing a skinny kid in there

I'd go with 3 rucks, Preuss or Tmac in the middle, Jackson front half, Tomlinson back half

I bloody hope not. Gus needs to play the majority of the game in the midfield, not on a wing. I'd play Sparrow at half forward and use him sparingly in the midfield rotation where needed.

If the FD see Sparrow as ahead of Gus, we may as well pack it in.

Unless I’m reading my Instagram wrong it looks like Tom is still in QLD

He was in the rooms after the Adelaide game - unless he’s flown back.

TMac is

Then Tmac replaces Gawn, if my memory is correct in 2017 Max was out for eight weeks and we won five of them using Tmac and a few others. Losing a Ruckman is not the end of the world when you are playing an ordinary side.

Are Tmac and /or Preuss in SA?

Tmac was definitely there at the Crows game

I like the way we let the opposition know so early every time we have an injury

Mighty neighbourly of us. We like helping them in their prep

I briefly popped into a Norf board and they were all calling for Goldstein to have a rest.

Maybe they'll take the opportunity now

They might use Tomlinson and Jackson in the ruck?

Agree TMac can get around the ground and he just needs to compete, don't have to unsettle the rest of the side then.

Viney and Gawn out. Two massive outs.

In my mind, that leaves Preuss and Jacko for a revolving ruck  and deep forward exchange, and Brayshaw and Harmes to do the dirty work in the midfield. Drop in Rivers to the HBF, for Salem, and Salem to the HFF for some goals and passing to the mobile Hannan, Fritta and Melk.

The Weed will have to move his feet a bit as a prong forward.

Drop Jonesy, throw in Jordan and blood him as a tagger/backline utility.

And for Heaven's sake, Goodwin, use the bench well and often.

Tomlinson on a wing is critical to receive the kick-ins from a behind to North. I still regard him as a spaceman out there who can get to space, has the height to receive in a pack, can part-time ruck in the region, can feed the forwards with run and carry. Max won't be there to run into the back flanks to receive kick-ins, so the backmen must concentrate on spoiling, bringing the ball to ground and screening the gathering smalls to get the ball away.

Honestly think you would throwing Jackson to the wolves at this point in his career. I think Tmac is the best option he did ok back in 2017.

I hope not. Tom is finished. Tomlinson needs to play ruck here. We don't need three defensive talls against North.

Tmac is not AFL ready. He is not up to playing ruck, his lack of mobility and pace would be even more a liability than it has been as a forward.

Would be a big mistake for them to play him. Unfortunately i won't be surprised if Goody makes it.

What are you ralking about? He's played in the ruck most weeks. I think you'll find @3183 Dee meant Tomlinson as the #1 ruck and Jackson to pinch hit like he did last week and the week before and the week before...

Gee you drop them off quick. Tmac is far from finished IMO.

Surely Steven May will be Captain May ??‍✈️ this week!

T mac needs more time off. Jackson needs more action. The onballers need to have a bloody hard crack .without the silver service.....

WE are talking about the main Ruckman at centre bounces here, Goldstein is a very good Ruckman he will take the kid apart. Jackson is 18 continue to play him in the forward line doing the ruckwork deep then he will get most times Norths secondary Ruck.

As opposed to dropping them off before they've been given a chance *cough* Weideman *cough*

He might have a career elsewhere, but he's done with us, barring injury to Weideman or Jackson. Maybe he gets a run for Jackson if he tires as the season progresses

But as a rule, he clogs up our forward system on a good day, not to mention he could barely bend down a week or so ago.

Jackson has taken plenty of centre bounces this year. Even if Gawn had been fit, he would have taken some more tomorrow.

We’ve had the best injury run of any club in 2020. No excuses.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
