6 games into their first year, not sure what else you could ask from a small forward and a 200cm plus forward/ruck.

Would not trade either of them for anyone else in the draft on exposed form, bar Rowell of course.

I think we'll know in 5 or 6 years time. I just think it's a big gamble that I'm not sure we needed to make. I'll be very happy to be proven wrong if Jackson reaches his undoubtedly high potential.

I was happy we picked up Jackson last year but I did also question he was the right type of player we needed.

Again I'm proven wrong. Jackson will win a Coleman next year.

But Young would have slotted in pretty much straight away and lifted our awefull kicking skills substantially off HB almost immediately.

Maybe he will be a good or very good forward / ruckman / or even a ruckrover Barassi (or Goodes for those not fortunate enough to have seen RDB in action) type

In other words, we really traded Hogan for May + KK.

And even if we did trade May (+ KK) for 6, it was a justified call at the time, and isn't even in the top 10 reasons for our poor early-2020 form.

And don’t forget that Hogan definitely wanted out, had his head in WA.  Got something rather than nothing.

I don't think any close observer doubts the wisdom of allowing Jesse to return to WA when we did.

I'd just like to make a big shout out to Josh Mahoney and Jason Taylor - they work together very well.

On the trade front Josh targets his man, convinces him to come to the club and then executes the trade with a minimum of fuss - Melksham, Hibberd, Lever, May and Langdon all essential pieces to the puzzle.  And I think that Tomlinson and Preuss can still prove to be astute transactions. 

Josh gets the essential players resigned with a minimum of fuss too. Christian Petracca anybody?

And when Jason Taylor alerts him to special opportunities at the draft he conjures the necessary picks and Taylor duly obliges with great high selections: Oliver-Weideman and Jackson-Pickett.

Look at GWS today and they are struggling at present and we could join them on 3 wins by tomorrow night and who would say our list is the potential of their AFL gifted amalgamation if talent!

Please keep some faith and sensibility about trading and its irregularities. 
 

PS Seem to recall a guy called Lockett and he hasn't ever hung an AFL medal around  his neck. Also another quirk is that Brian Lake win a  "Normie" who would have thought that plus Chip Frawley kept Josh Kennedy to a handful of kicks in 2015.

I'm sure it was indavertent, but made me laugh. Six players named as "once in a generation" players over a period of 56 years. That means a generation is just under 10 years.

Kossie and Rivers were excellent tonight and did everything you could ask of two first year players.

Its a fitting time to reflect on the Nth trade, though far from finished, its looking pretty good for the Dees.  A futures trade requires a lot of guess work and I liked the trade then, and I like the trade now.

 

(add in Jackson and 2019 draft of looking very solid)

Rivers is such a powerful player. The penetration in his kicking is good to watch.

For us to 'lose' this trade, we'd have to think that we would have been able to pick a better player than Kossie with our first pick in the upcoming draft ......

..... and if Kossie was available with our first pick in 2020, I'd be desperate for us to pick him.

I suspect that there’s going to be a fair amount of trading going on when the trade period actually happens. With so many unknowns about this year’s draft selections on top of the large number of academy picks, it might well up as a free for all. The quality of each club’s drafters could well be determined by this draft. In the meantime, picking up Kossie wasn’t a bad outcome for us at last year’s draft table.

While we knew about the academy picks we obviously could not have known that there would be no meaningful under-age football this year. That alone, is enough to say we did the right thing trading out a pick for this year. We turned what has become this year's much riskier option into last year's educated selection.

We have to play with confidence against good opponents 

Smashing Bottom teams is cool, but it is not a real test. 
But i will say, I expected the MFC to lose one of the previous 2 games, because that’s what the MFC does. We didn’t, and both times we accelerated away in the last Quarter. 
Even moreso to win last night without the Capt and VC after a 4 day break was very satisfying, Players stepped up.

Agree these next 2 games are season defining.

We have lost to the top teams, we've beaten the bottom teams, now let's see where we stand with 2 other sides in the hunt for the bottom half of the 8.

Both games are definitely winnable too.

The players were named as a list not as a generation each !!

All were in their respective careers a generational player but in footy context their times overlapped.

A generational player is an adjective only and describes their quality and fame and  uniqueness in our game ! 

We also have our second round pick that is linked to I think where Fremantle finish.  So essentially from trading/drafting not including Free agency, as it stands our second round pick will be 4-5 spots better, we added in Jackson/Pickett and Langdon add in Rivers and so far we are pretty happy with our 2019 Trade and Draft period
