I guess we will stay in Adelaide after the Crows game.  No point flying back to Qld and a long road trip to Maroochydore and do the same in reverse a few days later for the North game.

Was thinking exactly the same Luci until I read on.

It was mooted that the clash would take place in Queensland, where both teams will be, but instead the Roos and Dees will travel to Adelaide on the morning of the game.

Wtf. Extra costs and time and disruption.  Makes ZERO SENSE when Gabba and Metricon are available. Only winners - SA Demons.  If they let you have a crowd!!!

It does make sense as we play in Adelaide the week before. Can we not just stay in Adelaide between the two games and therefore avoid extra travel?

weird... at least we will have a crowd.  do we have a lot of Demons fans over there?

better than tassie for sure, like a home game for North

Seriously what the hell is that about. Surely that can't be right.

Both metricon and the Gabba are free on the Sunday. What possible benefit is that to anyone?

And leaving fairness aside, from a risk perspective it is completely ridiculous as it about 70 odd people traveling interstate with all the attendant flights, contact with people at airports etc etc.

Talk about being shafted.

That is insane as our hub is a few hours from the airport so it makes for a very long day, especially as we have done that trip a few days earlier for the Crows game,, whereas North will be fresh from the previous game in Qld.

We play North 4 days after our other game in SA so we can just stay in a hotel and not travel.

It thats what comes to pass, i think its a win for us TBH.

Big problem with jumping up and down is that the media is in such a hurry to get an "exclusive" they often report incorrect information.

I say we wait to see if flying on the morning of the game actually happens.

This is North making sure it's a level playing field.

Just shows that our management is asleep at the wheel

Is it really that big of a deal?

This works in our favour does it not?

I feel like we play Adelaide Oval well

Plus if we lose to North (no matter where we play) we don't deserve to be anywhere near finals.

Let's just play them wherever and win.

Yeah, we aren't a club with any leverage.

I recall when this block of games was released Goodwin said they would look at staying in Adelaide a few days and go straight to Hobart for the North game.  That idea didn't age well.

iirc in an interview before the Lions game someone (Ben maybe) said they travelled to GC and stayed in a hotel the night before the game.  That game was at 6.10.  Presumably we will have to lay over in Brisbane to catch the early morning flight, twice in 5 days.  Madness.

Overall, staying in Adelaide vs returning to Maroochydore is close to cost neutral so to me there is no sensible reason for not staying.

It is no improvement on travel and disruption from it not being in Hobart.

Which airport? Could we not fly in and out of Maroochydore's airport?

Good question!  Yes that would help.

It's a shared charter with North so most likely out of Brisbane

I suspect it's not cost neutral as we would still have to run the Qld hub and as mentioned the charter jet has to fly North over.

Extremely disappointing outcome

I wonder by this reverting to our home game it means they are still hopeful of shoehorning in North home games in Tassie at the [censored] end of the season.

Also, as the designated home side now why can’t we nominate to play in Qld ? Particularly if the AFL are making us return there between both SA games !

For what it's worth (probably not much) Tom Browne reported that we would be staying on in Adelaide between the 2 games.

Delighted to hear that!

The official word. "Melbourne will now be the designated 'home' team. Melbourne play at Adelaide Oval in round 10 and will remain in Adelaide for the four days leading into the round 11 match vs North Melbourne". afl-moves-roos-dees-clash

A big win for us.

That just seems daft!  Why fly both teams to Adelaide...

We sure are being messed about and not getting any breaks at all.

We play very well on the Adelaide Oval. It suits our zone... and is a very quick deck, which suits our ball movement too.

Interesting to see all the negativity above.

For mine, playing North in a Bunnings carpark off a 2 day break would even be preferable to [censored] Hobart. The fact it’s at Adelaide Oval - a ground we traditionally play better than any other - is an absolute bonus.

Each to their own though.

Even better that we go back to back at the Adelaide Oval. I think we've been done a favour by this one. Thanks Peter Gutwein. For a Lib, he goes alright that bloke.

Two Queenslanders have spent 8 days in south Brisbane without quarantining having returned from Melbourne, via NSW and subsequently testing positive for COVID 19. Could be a second wave coming to Queensland now.

That’s a smarter idea
