communist is wrong in this picture. there should be one single straw for communist. for the state.

That 3 straw image should read socialist, surely.

While we're at it, the Physicist one is wrong too. It should read gas and liquid. Fluid refers to gases and liquids.

I thought everything was a liquid

It's US supporters,  and indirectly our players as well, which need that sub conscious lift for the spirits.

I don't think you can blame the Yanks on this occasion.

Public Sentiment can be very useful

For too long The MFC has sat quietly in the corner and taken the scraps

That's true. On the other hand, the public could take the opposite view. I'm not sure Hawthorn, Port Adelaide or Collingwood get public sentiment on their side because their President's speak out.

Premature?

No it isn’t. Our game yesterday did not go ahead, if that happens I expect the President of my Club to speak about it.

How many other Presidents of AFL Clubs would you expect to remain silent in the reverse situation?

I'll half agree with you on this one. In this particular instance, I don't think it's the President's job. Rather, that's what I expect the CEO to do. I would expect the President to speak out on more significant and strategic issues, such as big picture funding matters, mergers, club identity questions, etc. I expect the CEO to discuss operational matters. I realise this particular matter is something we've not seen before, but all said and done, it's still just an operational matter.

Back to Melbourne. See we are two from two. Could not give a toss about other sides stats.

I agree bad kicking is bad football, but if they kicked straight we’d have gone down by four goals. The yips aren’t the reason the game was so close

Agree that, we let our selves down in general play, let them get on top and that their kicking let them down to a fair extent as well.  However 1 goal, 4 behinds is a shocking return from a player we are looking to be a top line forward.  If Bailey kicks another one or two of those very gettable goals, it would have helped us put score board pressure back them and shift the momentum of the game a fair bit.  If we are to become a good side we need forwards kicking at much better than 20% accuracy.

I do feel that Bailey had somewhat of a bad game accuracy wise and that on other occasions he might have kicked 5 goals straight.  But we do need better consistency from Bailey and others in the team like Melk, Trac and even Max in this respects, just can't cough up gettable goals.

Gotta have the last word don't ya?  It's why you're such a well balanced poster.  Either that or the chip on each shoulder.  ?

You probably think Hunt is better than  Lyon,  Neitz, Schwarz and Jakovich.

Remember when you insulted them the other day?   Four legends of the MFC

Didn't insult them, for their time, really great players for the Club, would not survive these days

Unlike others on here never compare players

They asked Leigh Matthews once whether he would like to ply today, answer emphatic NO

Playing the man again I see, school out early today??????

This is just laughable.

You never saw any of them play,  I guarantee it.

If [censored] is thrown at me, i am more than happy to fire it back. That only occurs from some Posters on here, the rest is all just fun banter

I want to hear what Bartlett plans to do

Plans to do what?

We have a game against Geelong, next weekend, hopefully, the rest has got [censored] all to do with us

Footy is the priority, so we arranged a practice game to ensure still got the miles in, after checking with the Chairman, that was ok of course

Wide open for what, your scintillatin wit and opinions

Those players were great players in their time

Only concerned about how we go against Geelong

It is 2020

If we go small against Geelong and win, all this about a Key Forward will be forgotten, well for a week at least

Didn't say that

Said I don't think they would be of value in the modern game, the game has changed

If Leigh Matthews who should know, expressed the same, for some reason I value his.opinion above yours

You said they “wouldn’t survive in the modern game”

a ridiculous comment, but quite insightful into your knowledge of the game

Harsh self assessment there

Your opinion on whether Schwarz would be able to fill  the defensive role required of a forward these days

Even Tom Hawkins, who probably equates to the old fashioned gorilla is finding the game is going past him, Tex Walker similarly

Off you go, let's hear an opinion, rather than your usual name calling and toys from the pram

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
