Bombers’ speed advantage would be blunted in the wet. Bring on the rain!

I’ve fallen for the wet conditions so many times.

Trust me we’re even worse in the wet weather and I can’t recall us winning a game in recent years on a genuine wet day.

At this stage they’re only predicting a shower or 2 on Sunday so it might not even rain during the game.

You look forward to Thursday nights for selections then suddenly realise you play Sunday and have to wait another 24 hrs for the final team.

Predicting they will include Weid, Kossie, Hibbo and Lockhart to the squad. If Hibbo does get selected for the final 22 I’m also fearing it will be at the expense of Jetta.

One thing to look forward to is seeing Langdon and Tomlinson on the MCG wings for the first time.

I think what a lot of us are missing is the first quarter and a half of last Saturday’s game. We were well and truly back to 2018 form. If we can do it then, we can do it again, and we did it with the players playing last Saturday.

I think it would be more constructive to consider how we can consistently recapture that form for four quarters, rather than considering wholesale changes for this week.

Having said that though, there are players waiting in the wings who missed that game for a variety of reasons who would make our side even stronger and deliver a better result. For mine l would go with:

IN: Weid, Kosie, Hannan

OUT: TMAC, Melksham, Neil - Bullen

must say I am tired of this practice. May as well announce the Sunday teams on Friday. The Thursday announcements are a hangover from the old days and are really irrelevant except that the AFL is so reluctant to release any of its media space.

It's strange that the teams are announced with such fanfare on Thursday and then the final teams are a deeply hidden postscript.

Mind you it could also be that we seem to perennially play on a Sunday.

It's part of the TV right deal with Channel 7. They get to unveil the teams on Thursday night on the 5pm news and make a spectacle of it. Noone is allowed to release them or discuss them officially in the media before then.

I agree though, it is backwards. We're stuck with it for however long the current TV rights deal is.

Have to disagree Jim. I still use and need both

Have to say I had some odd looks from others when they see me dutifully marking the goals and behinds

Goody has just confirmed that Kozzie is a lock for this week. Great news!

pencil or pen ?

Each season I do a sheet on the computer and update it for each game I attend. After they increased the price of the record from a shilling I stopped buying it.

Oh come on.  I guess you want to move to 16 players a side as well?

At what point does it stop being Aussie Rules altogether..  sheesh.

Were you using your ostrich quill pen at the time?

Did anyone hear Jennings on SEN today about Goodwins strategy in how the premiership quarters are now played in the first quarter now rather than the third?

Was super interesting stuff and made me think that maybe Goodwin knows how to win but the 2nd and 3rd quarter we just stunk. Clean that up and if we continue to start well out of the blocks we should be ok. Still a lot of work to do but it was interesting to hear Jennings talk on how he thought Goodwin coached well

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
