I think Lever is on shaky ground and if he is injured even slightly they wont play him. He needs to be more than a modern Zac Dawson and go for marks rather than punching. Id play Smith instead if Jake is injured.

I would be putting Harmes on to tag Cripps.

6feet five inch, 96Kgs, Weideman playing back up ruck and forward for Melbourne. Ask anyone of 70 with a memory, and there is one + Flag right there.....

I agree with this.   Every time I look at our defence,  I see problems.

After and in consideration of the fact that we suckered/snookered/pointed/obligated into playing over in WA in R 1, I'm happy to go with selectors on this, the 2nd round.

Graeme Wise at first ruck very wiry type but don't think he had a long career Games any one?

And yet if not for our R1 defence, WCE would've won by 10+ goals. Darling and Kennedy well held.

Should our connection going inside 50 improve by 25% I think we'd win an additional 5-6 games per season. To me, that's our glaring weakness.

Would defy logic to name Petty Pruess as emergencies as they didn't play last Sat.

Absolutely Moon and last year with a our injuries and surgeries the same 5 games at least.

Cattle better this year and more speed and versatility  ie Kossie Bedford Chandler AVB Hannan Brown Jackson and the resting mids and rucks plus even Dslem I reckon at times!

Reasonably mean, i reckon 40 to 50 perhaps.

I mean in terms of winning a premiership,  not so much home and away matches.   In other words,  does it look like a premiership winning defence?

There is a picture (somewhere) of Ditta bursting on the scene in his first game for the Saints - he was sitting on the Melbourne ruckman's shoulder at a boundary throw in - I reckon it was Graeme Wise.

I believe WC never got out of second gear all day.  If there was going to be clutch moments Darling and Keneddy would of buried us.

It was more to do with structure. Petty can play fwd/back and Burgess had mentioned weeks ago he was back in full training. Pruess is our only available ruck who is AFL standard and he was close to full fitness in round 1. Perhaps your logic needs some reviewing.

It's pretty clear that they are not going to be in the discussion for playing this week as they are fringe players who didn't play on Saturday. They will not be listed as emergencies when we have about 38 players fit.

Bennell has to play, this club took a risk in getting him now it's time to double down on the risk and get him out there. Club won't play him a crazy amount of TOG, but it needs to add some excitement to the mix and players feed off that. I would rather a 75% fit Harley than a conservative player out on the park. Not to mention the quarters are shorter so can be cautious with how long he is out there for.

I don't see a point in holding off on him playing if he is begging Goodwin to play. If we had other classy movers like him then I would say hold off, but we just don't.

Unleash him

Weid and Jackson were named emergencies for round 1 and were clearly not ready to play. Weid had a rolled ankle and wasn't even close to playing and Jackson is a long way off from playing in the 1sts. So it's really anyone's guess who they choose as emergencies. I chose those four players as it works well with structures. Each player represents an area of need should someone in the 22 be unable to play. Bennel plays fwd/mid, Pruess is our only back up Ruck, Petty plays fwd/back and Hunt is a HHF/HHB.

For mine (well, a bit of a mix of opinion and realistic guesses), I would have...

B: Jetta, May, Hore
HB: Salem, Lever, Harmes
B: Langdon, Brayshaw, Tomlinson
HF: Melksham, Fritsch, Petracca
F: Bedford, T.McDonald, Pickett

FOL: Gawn, Oliver, Viney

IC: Jackson, Jones, Hibberd, Neal-Bullen

Lockhart & Weid probably unlucky, wouldn't be surprised at all to see them play.

Being conservative with Bennell and vandenBerg.

No to Fritsch at CHF T MAC to CHF WEEDS to play rest of the year at FF UNLESS he remains Goaless after 3 Games. Smith must play and ANB is surplus to needs as is Hibberd! Jackson not yet!

Yeah, was very close to picking Weid at CHF. Not against it at all. The thing that tipped the balance for me was the short quarters on a quick track. Thought it might be good to go a little smaller.

Why "must" Smith play? What form are you going off there? Bloke hasn't played an AFL game for about 20 months. I like him, but not sure why so many are all of a sudden excited by him.

Anyways, you've got 2 players coming in and 3 players coming out there.

I reckon and this is just my opinion this bloke has some serious X factor,

1 Has pace

2 Plays short or tall

3 Can Mark

4 Very good disposal

5 Can play Forward OR Back therfore offering flexibility

6 Brave!

Sadly Cruelled by Injury if he gets a consistent crack at it will be a great player for MFC IMV!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
