“What a strange Person..”

”Is there someone else up there we can talk to...?”

I guess those complaining will be buying extra memberships to cover the shortfall.

Incrementally its only one or 2 coffees a month after all...........

Nobody has the right to pass judgement on others for their financial choices, no matter how "small" they may be. If you are so worried, i guess you can always send the club some extra cash. If you dont, then its nothing but grandstanding to criticise others.

MFC has to demand the money by performing.

Thats how successful clubs do it.

Hence my purchasing of a membership for my son as well. I’m on no income other than a small indexed pension, super went in supporting a mortgage after being made redundant at 62, but that’s my choice (cue world’s littlest violin). The point is that most are likely in a position to afford a membership (I never made a sweeping generalisation to the effect that all are in that position).

If I made my decision based purely on performance, my son might never have gotten a membership and I would have diced mine years ago. I’m a believer in taking the good with the bad.

No but he has a stockpile of thoughts and prayers ready to roll if things get real tough.

Thank God for those thoughts and prayers! Where would we be without them?! Oh, if only God would actually answer and send me more toilet paper!

Oh, never mind, I  know where I can get some. Off to the distant mountain....

No violin here. Like i said nobody has the right to criticise other spending priorities HT. You prioritised memberships while many others cant/wont. Thats your choice and i fully support it. I would also support your decision if you decided the money was better spent elsewhere. IMO thats how it SHOULD be.

You are probably right that many are in a position to buy a membership if they dont already have one.

Regardless, nobody should criticise them if they wont. It is their money after all and in the current climate there are a lot of people who dont know what is in their medium term financial future.

MFC has had ample chances to lock in big membership numbers. We keep falling over.

Reckon the decision to scrap Pokie income is also looking risky right now too.

2020 had better be a belter On-field or our terrible recent history might spell total financial disaster.

I am kinda glad we have put our balls on the line Ding. The Club has finally realised that onfield success is the way to make money

Pert i am sure is behind this. He knows how big companies operate (so did Jackson)

Perform and you get paid....

To be clear Ding; I wasn't having a go at people who don't commit to the Club by buying a membership.  I was suggesting that if you don't buy one you shouldn't winge and moan and bag the Club.

I guess I fall into this bracket. Member for 25 odd years (not every year however). Last year I bought a membership for myself and our 4 year old boy (first time for him). What a year, from my perspective it was money down the drain. In terms of enjoyment delivered there was zero. Their performances actually put me off football. This year I’ll see how we are placed and if they show some resilience I’ll rejoin. If that’s a bandwagon supporter then so be it.

Nothing wrong with that, I don't see you on here talking about how krap the Club is.

Didn't suggest in my post that they bothered me, I was just curious why you were posting so much when on holidays.

I have never been on a packaged tour ever, I could think of nothing worse.

Well you have to get to and from a destination. So much waiting time.

Opinions are free, or at least you shouldnt have to pay to give one.

If that were to be enforced, my posts would be kept while a great many other would have to be deleted based on the fact i have paid for lifetime membership to DL, while most have not.

Clearly thats not the way it works, nor should it be. Wouldnt be many opinions to read on this site if that was the case.

I think we have to take the good with the bad. We will never ALL agree with each other. If people want to vent, i say let them. If you say stupid enough stuff people will put you on ignore anyway.

Go Dees.

Currently buying six.

If you’ve survived being a Melbourne supporter all these years, you’ll survive Corona virus.
Covid-19 has nothing on MFCSS

Not exactly the best anologue, if people who don't pay a membership to DL constantly winged and moaned and bagged the site, my strong suspicion is they would be deleted, actually a paid up member would probably be asked if they would like a refund as well.

Clearly thats not the way it works, nor should it be. Wouldnt be many opinions to read on this site if that was the case. What I said wasn't about differing opinions. I love the challenge of trying to put my views and perhaps influence someone to re-think theirs. I've had my opinions challenged on here and sometimes I've changed mine because of a good idea argued well. It's all the negative stuff that dwells too much on history and is sometimes disrespectful of the current people trying to improve the Club that I don't enjoy as a committed Member of the MFC.

I think we have to take the good with the bad. We will never ALL agree with each other. If people want to vent, i say let them. If you say stupid enough stuff people will put you on ignore anyway.  Agreed and I do appreciate your sentiments regarding this. I think I've mentioned before that I'm a big fan of the work of Bertrand Russell. He said;

Remember your humanity, and forget the rest. In "Reflections on My Eightieth Birthday" ("Postscript" in his Autobiography), Russell wrote: "I have lived in the pursuit of a vision, both personal and social. Personal: to care for what is noble, for what is beautiful, for what is gentle; to allow moments of insight to give wisdom at more mundane times. Social: to see in imagination the society that is to be created, where individuals grow freely, and where hate and greed and envy die because there is nothing to nourish them. These things I believe, and the world, for all its horrors, has left me unshaken" and he also said;

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

Go Dees.

If paid incrementally, it can cost as little as 2 cappuccinos a month. Withholding such a small pittance out of "principal" isn't noble, it's ridiculous. Memberships are the lifeblood of every club in so many ways, but I guess the people that do this think they're bigger than the club so the narrative fits I guess.

I guess I should get life insurance as well because that's only 1 cappuccino a week and join the gym because that's 2 cappuccinos a week. So what if it's a little spend to you? Not everyone has the same priorities. Everyone on here is a melbourne support, member or not and should he appreciated because my god when I look at every other club we need every little bit of support we can get.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
