The ex public school boy and pizza delivery guy leading the MFC.

I think this is actually a good thing culturally to be able to shrug some of the blue blood, private school elitism that the clubs stereotypical image is built around.

Yeh and I don’t think he skis either!

I love what this decision means.
Maxy is the type of person who is willing to be himself in what can be a very conformist and macho culture while still being ruthless in his pursuit of excellence. I think for too long we have used the criteria of either 'speaks well' or is 'competitive and self disciplined beast'. I am not sure we have looked at the human relationships side of things enough.
I have heard that MMM have thrown shade at the decision already though.

I think this decision is a slap in the face to both Trengove and Grimes

Wasn’t their fault, they were pushed by a Club that had no idea and it killed 2 careers

Its the correct move and when its peer led, you cant really argue. To Captain a football side for one game is an honour, Jack should be proud of his tenure, captained a club in 2 winning finals, not many Demons have done that. Get back to being tough and hell bent on the footy. That leadership will compliment Max's perfectly.

No leadership group is refreshing. Says they are all in teh leadership group, all leaders in their own right.

Something feels pretty good about the club at the moment,!

Very interesting with no leadership group, I suppose it’s the less is more approach. Gawn captain and Viney as vice is a good choice, fwiw I think Jack will embrace it. I think it’ll sting for a bit but I hope he will also see the opportunity that it provides for him to focus on his game.

Congrats big Max, he is the best example of perseverance and change in attitude turning him into the player he is today. What an example to set for the young brigade.

I like the no leadership group model.  Puts the spotlight very brightly on the captain and vice captain, and I think they are two players that are best to deal with it.  I was hoping Jack would be captain and Max vice, but given this "new" model, I think Max leading is the right call.

Top call by the club, and a well deserved honour for Max.

Wait, so the whole team is responsible for on field leadership... making each person as responsible, accountable and empowered and as the next?!

Preposterous!

(I love this)

Kingy had a nice take on this on SEN this morning. Was talking about how he liked the Gawn appointment because he was a player who had made the mistakes, done the hard yards, learned his lessons and so would be a great person for the players to come to if they needed a chat or messed up etc. We'd had the captains who were the "swim between the flags" types in Jones and Viney, but now we'd have a captain who could truly relate to players who needed it.

Oh i totally agree 100%

But they didn’t ask to be Captains, they were still in nappies as far as i am concerned. The whole thing was a disgrace

Congratulation to Max and Jack on their new roles. Hope this is a genuine new era of leadership that expunges the wishy washy  and confused leadership structures we have seen in the the past decade.

I won't comment on their music sensibilities. Especially as they gave my Uncle Humphrey mainstream exposure with this little ditty.

I'm more concerned with the outsourced influence that the galoot sitting in the middle of that ensemble of mediocrity and cronyism has on weakening rival clubs from his media soapbox.

Just like @hemingway actually wrote 'A Moveable Feast', 'The Old Man and the Sea' and 'Farewell to Arms'. Demonland attracts all walks of life don't you know? ?

A great appointment - the way he carries himself in public (not to mention the doco) he is the perfect man for the job.

Onya Maxy - the first grade A star we have had in a long long time.

Great to see the players vote and also also put their support behind Viney as vice. From some of the gossip I was beginning to worry the players did not rate Jack's leadership

This is great and I love the no leadership group part.

I know others have mentioned it, but I couldn't agree more Clint.  I think it's a terrific move by the club.

Jack spoke about how the club is full of leaders, and now is the time for them all to step up and play their role in turning our fortunes around.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
