Melbourne v Richmond

Now 9.10.64 to 7.12.54

Latest 11.10.76 to 7.12.54 (finally got it right)!

And that's the 3/4 time score. My reports say we have the game under control but there's still a fair bit of rotation going on so the game is still ebbing and flowing a bit. Neitz resting, White up forward and kicked 2 while Davey kicked a ripper from the boundary! Jones a stand out!

Still lucky that Richmond was off target early in the third quarter.

And oh and yes. It's only a practice game and the result means nothing!

Just spoke to my mate at the ground

WJ's scores are correct

My mate is a Tigers supporter, and he said that Yze engineered the BIGGEST SQUIB he has ever seen whilst running with the flight of the ball. He backed out faster than you can say 'soft'. Absolutely copped it from he crowd, apparently.

Neitz went off at halftime

Davey kicked a great goal from the boundary.

White went forward to replace Neitz.

Jones killing them in the middle.

Just returned from the ground - I could only catch the 1st 1/4 & 20 minutes of the 2nd.

My observations :

Chris Johnstone - Has Arrived, backed himself through several packs & looks ultra fit.

Nathan Jones - Total ball magnet, will be so important in 2007

Nathan Carroll - Moving very well & backing himself running of his opponent.

Neitz - Giving Joel Bowden yet another Footy Lesson. The big fella looks trim & ready to fire.

Brent Moloney looked a little rusty but willbe better for the run.

Jeff White & Cameron Bruce both dominating in the centre.

Daniel Bell looks to have had a big pre-season on the weights.

Walked away thinking we are a dead set shot @ top 4 in 2007 & didnt notice the

much discussed hands In the back rule once.

26 up

Report from the ground suggest we are playing more direct, and are only using the extra handball when the Toiges flood back

WJ

Still running & carrying but nowhere near to the extent of The Hawks game I saw.

The 50 minutes I saw the game plan flowed very well.

The Tiges had no idea - But hey whats new?

Slot Brock & Col back into the side & there is still alot of upside to come.

Forgot to mention Trapper before, hitting targets & moving very smoothly.

Thanks for that OMR.

It's all over and we won by a comfortable 28 points 15.13.103 to 10.15.75. More details soon hopefully.

In the meantime, the word is that Brock will be back next week but Col is now lurking in 426 territory if you get my drift.

Didnt notice any major change in Whitey's technique, Jamar was also doing alot of the ruck work & between them they where

hitting targets - Jones, Bruce & Junior.

Apart from dominating the centre @ least 2 goals early in the 2nd where a direct result of forward line pressure

creating turnovers. Junior & CJ where relentless.

Thanks mainly to Scoop Junior who will no doubt expand on this when he returns home from MC Hard Labour Park.

We went well for most of the first half but then the Tigers came back just before half time. After the break, the game became very scrappy. The coach had a tough job rotating 26 players and that also made it difficult for players to star in such a game. The play was a bit disjointed and although we were moving the ball well out of defence, we weren't always making the smoothest transition when going forward. Both sides were getting men behind the ball and it was difficult penetrating the packed forward lines.

Generally, much better than the Nab Cup game v Hawthorn. Theree was still a fair bit of handball but nowhere near as much as in that game!

Our better players were Nathan Jones, Chris Johnson and Daniel Bell. Bell put Nathan Brown (theirs) out of the game – a pretty handy effort. He's hard at the ball and strong and getting better all the time. Cam Bruce flashed in and out and generally looked quite good!

Neita saw very little action after the break after booting three in the first half. When he went off, Jeff White went forward and kicked three himself. They weren't from big marks either – two were scored at ground level and the other came from an uncontested mark. Brad Miller showed improvement and took some good marks while Bate and Buckley just went. Yze was well … Yze. He dropped an easy mark at one stage and got a bit of a raz from the crowd. He has to pick up his game to be certain of a game in round 1.

Biz did OK out of defence and looked composed for much of the time he was on the ground although at one stage he was matched up on Pettifer and it was a bit of a mis-match.

TJ might have been a bit rusty on his return from a broken toe but, as always, his disposal was a delight. Late in the game Junior started playing well. Our midfield will get a major boost when these blokes are 100% fit and ready and we get Brock into it as well!

Finally, for Chip Off the Old Spud, Frawley's ground time was limited but he was really impressive when he came on in the last quarter – he picked up a number of possessions running off half back. He backed his judgement and looked good although his kicking was a bit funny.

Goalkickers: Neitz, White 3, Davey, Jones 2, Bruce, Green, C Johnson Johnstone, Whelan.

Just a quick summary.

We looked the better team for all but the last 10 minutes of the second quarter.

CJ started brilliantly and was a clear BOG in the first half. Ran himself into the ground and had a much quieter second half.

Hannabal, Jones was great. Kicked a couple of first half goals and when McLean comes back they will form a very sound inside mid team.

Frawley played a fair bit of the last. I really like this kid. He's agile, clean with his hands, doesn't panic and knows how to find it. Don't worry about his kicking. He's got an strange style but it's effective.

Bizzell was great. Cleaned up, looked assured and did a defensive role well.

Dunn had a shocker. I can't remember a kick.

White played forward and kicked 3. Jamar was good in the ruck and not around the ground. What's new?

Buckley looked comfortable playing at this level but wasn't outstanding.

Bate played a reasonable game but hasn't taken a quantum step from last year on today's showing.

Miller didn't have a great day.

Robbo was ineffective.

Yze? Less said the better.

Agree that we played run and carry but mixed it up with a kicking game. We looked to be getting the hang of it a bit better.

And Richmond are in for a long season..... without Simmonds, Richo and Bowden they didn't show much.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
