The good news is that we we will get an update from the Club this coming Tuesday night.😁👍

2 questions need to be answered at the AGM.

Home base situation & MC Services as sponsor

It’s all stale news, I can guarantee that.

Re think

Bluey are you CF brother, 12 months ago we were despondent that we couldn’t find a site and the club were being pilloried for lack of effort (sack the CEO, Sack the President). So after finding a very suitable location, close to CBD direct rail connection, sufficient space, now they are copping it because it is taking to long to announce the location and development plans. I understand that some feel they won’t live to see it and I fit into this category But I am thinking more of our children and grandchildren who will see it rolled out and enjoyed by all and sundry. The club need to be Applauded for their efforts, time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor including Messrs, Rolfe and Pert.

we are as close to a home base as we have ever been

i still don't think there's going to be a 'major announcement' at the agm; it will be more a case of 'we continue to work towards it'

and honestly? i'm okay with that - the important is that we are not told that the 'dream' of caulfield, but continues to have active progress towards an announcement

the agitating for it to happen doesn't make it happen any faster

$30M from the taxpayer is still a [censored] load of money to be gifted to one of the biggest / most financial sporting teams in Australia.

I would be surprised if the MFC got any government money. Rather the govt money will go to the CRCT/ Glen Eira to provide the sporting facilities etc within the interior of the racecourse. Even the tunnel could be funded this way as it is supposed to be public access.

MFC will have to raise funds to build a new Admin block and indoor training facilities outside of the track, currntly proposed for the SE corner.

Tonight’s the AGM so I’m hoping we get something more definite tonight. That being said, the lack of any leaks about it suggests we have either a very very tight ship or there might not be a lot to say.

No announcement available as per the new President, Steven Smith. Disappointing but no real surprise.

the important announcement is that the possibility of caulfield is yet to be snuffed out

I’m sorry but that’s disgraceful if true.

So bloody Melbourne...

No excuse eh @Redleg ?

I got on to the live stream during the financial report and missed the earlier bit.

Are you saying that all he said was that no announcement was available?

Surely he elaborated a bit.

I heard the questions and there wasn't one about the Training ground.

If all that was said was there was no announcement, that is extremely poor.

Surely you can elaborate a bit without breaching any confidential information.

Why does this club feel it can continually treat its members like mugs?

Reckon we’ll be lucky to sign up over 50k members next year.

This is from a Paul Guerra article in the HS in October..

Melbourne’s move to finally confirm a headquarters at the Caulfield racecourse continues apace with more positive meetings in the last fortnight.

“All I would say is by the time the AGM comes around we will be in a position to give a really positive alignment.”

So.. what happend??

Honestly, I havent watched the videos yet so I'll get around to it, but if there has been a speed bump along the way then just tell us...

My opinion is, let's just get to Waverley for now until we can actually get a home. At least we will be all under the same roof for once.

Caufield is just a pipe dream it seems.

Our wonderful board, hand picked by their mates, everyone else is excluded, couldn’t arrange a plate of sandwiches.

Organising sand witches is famously difficult for anyone

We’ll continue to remain uncompetitive until we find a suitable home base like Caulfield. It’s not lost on me that we won a premiership during covid when all advantages were removed on the road. As soon as normal programming resumed, we bundled out in straight sets and [censored] the bed into free fall.

But I thought we had a really exciting announcement coming?

I mean that’s what Brad Green basically said when he was giddy as a school girl at King’s introductory press conference

I know that even if things are progressing behind the scenes we can’t necessarily make any public announcements (especially if government funding is involved), but come on, at least throw us a bone

Well the President did say "we are really close and we will share more as soon as we are able to."

I guess that means that we are not allowed to announce anything yet and I assume that is because one of the stakeholders has told us not to.

Caulfield will happen and it will just need a bit more patience before it is officially announced.

It is disappointing though that the President couldn't elaborate a bit more, without making an official announcement.

I am as frustrated at that as everyone else on here.

this was exactly as predicted

no update outside of 'more updates soon'

frustrating, but better than 'it's dead, and we're back to square one'

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
