I live nearby Caulfield Racecourse but I’d never been in the middle park where they plan to do most of the works. I went a couple of weeks ago to check it out and I was quite shocked how dilapidated the internal area was, it was terrible. I don’t see how any local person could not support this, given it would drastically improve the park lands.

Thats how I see it as well. It’s not even a park. There’s a glorified dam and hectares of grass interspersed with dirt tracks and bitumen/concrete. Melbournes presence in an elite facility for 17 hours a week could only be a boon for the area. It’ll come down to whether any powerful people in the community don’t want it or want it for something else. We should have an answer by the middle of the year.

Agree with both the above.  It's going to be an amazing upgrade to the area and the community will get a lot more benefits than what they're getting there.

I have actually read a few comments from people against it on social media and following a couple pages out of interest.  Some of the straw clutching and rhetoric shared is just fear mongering and silly.

The comments remain so far off the mark advising that a football club is just going to completely take the area over and there will no access.  It is clearly not true as we all know that even on the 17 hours a week we're using the ovals - the community will still have access to the rest of the entire area which will see massive improvements.

It's such a common sense project IMO and will have amazing outcomes for the recreation community using it.

I say this without my red and blue coloured glasses on.

It very much is and we will have to continually demonstrate how we improve outcomes for the sport of racing given we've chosen this facility to sit within a racing track.

We’re doing nothing for the racing club unless we pay a lease fee to them which I’m not sure we do. What we are doing can be seen as a benefit to the wider community who will have access to elite grounds every weekend of the year and at various times during the week.

of course, it is in our interests at the moment to foster good relations with them so as they don't lodge any objections

Without the support of the MRC & RV, the project simply won't go ahead. 

Sort of a relevant/irrelevant update ---Melbourne Victory , who like us had issues finding a home ground have made an announcement

Committed to a Multi-campus strategy for the Women's, Pre-Academy and Academy programs teams - spread out North/East/South and West. But the Senior men's team are remaining at Gosch's Paddock/AAMI Park for now.

Does that mean the Club’s administration will move from AAMI Park?
No, our administration and A-League Men’s program are entrenched at our spiritual home, and we see our infrastructure project as only enhancing the access we have as a Club to elite facilities.

So they haven't been able to find the perfect bit of land (and they also have no money) it seems they'll likely piggyback of local clubs for the above campuses. 

Hopefully once the Demons have chosen their new CEO we shall see further updates on the Home Base at Caulfield Racecourse.

I believe they have started fundraising from the foundation heroes group. Always have a $10m commitment from a group of them from what I heard.
