Hmmmn why not incorporate an outdoor garden centre with Cafe that sells excellent coffee brunch and puppy chinoโ€™s. They are always packed out and will lower resistance. Lol.!!

ย

Be the most Melbourne thing that the funding dries up before we get our turn and after every other club gets there state of the art facilitiesย

Don't laugh.ย  That should be one of the major highlights of the development!

Without footy, coffee, beer and smashed avos at 'dog friendly' cafes...what else is there?

This stadium funding charade is a game of ticking boxes. Doesn't matter what your true intentions are, as long as you tick the right combination of boxes to unlock the $$$. Some clubs are very good at it. We are terrible.

Yep, and the sad thing is that we led the way with AFLW and yet others who sat back and had no particular interest benefit from it in their funding.

Knocking back the Lexus Centre all those years ago, has really hurt us long termย

We got put at the back of the queue, and we are still there

Why oh why do D/ers ย not understand that at this stage no proposal is completed to be refused ย overlooked or written off.ย

our Caulfield project is far from finalised so a specific authorised application has not been refused. The stakeholders are not ready yet but it is gaining momentum and priority.ย

Some D/Lers post negative comments about our Club when we donโ€™t hold the strings this stage.

Another virtually says we donโ€™t fill out forms of application for funding and other Clubs are great at it. Well that's because the Cats for example have a ground and it is ย easy to make a specific grandstand application for funding. By six time over they are good.ย

No plan ย including our training facility is near finalisation so hold the horses till it is. Or letโ€™s get into our Club and make them the whipping boys again.ย

Oh and the post about the Lexus Centre location not being chosen was and it is well known a walk up case of no money to put in. Joe G had just saved us from merging/ possible extinction but still itโ€™s used again incorrectly as an opportunity missed with no mention of the fact that the funds were not available at the time in our finances.ย

Itโ€™s all about timing and one must have some cash to spend on such a development I repeat. ย

This may be the final option for inner city land suitable and itโ€™s no good spoiling the facility after this length of time due to overdue haste.ย

Joe never bothered to speak to Members about anything. And the money he did put in, had to be surgically removed from his pocket long after the promise was made.ย

We are still nomadicย

Iโ€™m thinking more semi- nomadic we always have Casey Fields to fall back on and that venue is far superior to the old Junction Oval.๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

The club has had options since the Gutnik era. What is now called the AIA centre being the obvious one.ย

Yep, but my point was more about other clubs getting funding under false pretences.

An odd comment when the club got $2.7Mย  of the $3M that he originally promised.ย  ย Rounding down to nearest $100 thou that is say about $2.7M than MFC will get from me (and others) in 60 years of support.

If Joe had been smarter, he could have engaged a lot of Members to financially contribute and we would have gotten another $5-6 Millย

But he didnโ€™t. Joe was King for a short time and we are still waiting to find a base

Still, he put in more dosh than anyone else ever has, by far. And at a time when the well was bone dry in terms of club finances. There was sweet fa chance of us being able to finance the Olympic swimming pool redevelopment. Also worth remembering the Olympic park running track (now Pies training oval) wasn't part of the original plan, it came later due to Eddie's 'coercion'

I understand all that. But while Joe was in charge, there was no negotiation. I say this because I worked with a Board Member at the time, I got daily updates on how hard it was to do anything. Yes Joe donated a large chunk, but it did come at a costย

Perhaps over the last 20 years but the Lexus Centre itself has a shelf life, just like Punt Road. As a facility itโ€™ll drift towards the back of the pack given the limited space / development potential

Sure, but it would have been fantastic in 1998-99 when it was first offered. And it would have given us great bargaining power within the Competition.Big Name Players would have come to the MFC.ย
Everything has a shelf life, but we are still trying to find a block of land, other clubs have redeveloped and rebuilt 2-3 timesย

Yep agree with that. It certainly compounded the problems weโ€™ve had as a club prior to Jackson, Roos and co. Less so now, and if Caulfield allows us to continually have the best facilities in the league for the next 50 years then weโ€™re going to be better positioned than Collingwood & Richmond who will themselves have to be looking elsewhereย

Exactly. Now let me clarify, the Bentleigh Club and Leaoak were great purchases and i give him credit for those , but they didnโ€™t assist in getting Training Facilities, which is what the core Business of The Club is. Winning games of Football.ย
My Biggest worry with Gutnick was that he didnโ€™t look far enough into the Future, there were ways to raise money back then, but he wasnโ€™t interested.ย

I wonder if the people against our proposed move to Caulfield are the same ones that just stopped a bike path connection being built adjacent to the racetrack and are now fighting with each other because it's been diverted down a residential street instead.ย

Lol, I'm sure they are. Let them bleed.... The NIMBY Wars.

The cost were small compared to non survival, which is we were faced with. No point looking a gift horse in the mouth

Is the Lunatic Asylum at Parkville vacant?

Might be appropriate.

ย

There will always be NIMBY's. We just have to get the majority of the community on board. Given the inside of the track is used for very little presently it should not be a difficult case to prosecute and convince enough people that the project makes sense.

This is Kate Roffey's domain. If this falls over, I won't be blaming a few NIMBY's.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
