Would have needed to be handy with his fists at both Richmond Tech and Richmond FC, moreso the school I reckon.

Paddy Guinane?!  Haven't heard that name in a very long time!  Rather sad we hear of such blasts from the past again only after they have passed away.  Was a fine player back in the day.

Condolences to his family.

Of course I never saw Jack Dyer play but a few of the old Tiger faithfuls told me on more than one occasion many years ago when I saw Paddy play..."that's the closest you're ever gonna see to Captain Blood". Pretty great tribute from the fans. And he had bucket hands and played willingly. A Richmond favourite and now a fond memory. Well played Paddy.

For all the rough stuff mentioned Paddy was a gentleman. He was my first coach at Caulfield in the VFA and such a contrast from Tony Jewell who he took over from. Tony was fiery and could give a spray and left you in doubt about what he thought whereas  I don't think I ever heard Paddy swear who was measured and always referring to Len Smith's coaching notes.

A great career as a footballer and a wonderful man. My condolences to the family and may he rest in peace.

Former Tiger who played during their lean period from the late 50s who was finally rewarded with a premiership flag in 1967, the year before he retired.

Interesting. "The evil men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones." With this chap it appears to be the opposite. That so many Demons fans are waxing eloquent about an oppo player speaks volumes about the character of Mr Guinane.

No 1 on his back and watching him kick for goals from 10 yards out on a B&W TV consistently missing and set shots to.

RIP Paddy  You served the Tigers well.

Also an old school teacher. Taught at Richmond Tech in the early 80s

Yes a teacher at the old tech and when they merged with Richmond High School in about 1986, old Paddy went off on stress leave to his farm, never to return so he did well to last this long. May he Rest In Peace.

My wife was a teacher at Richmond High in that period, for the record.

From memory he held the ball on a pretty severe angel as he lined up a drop punt...could teach Richo & T Cloke a thing or two about missing the easy set shot.

There was something strange about his goal kicking; too indifferent to analyse it, though - after all, it was the Tigers in the days of Esso petrol stations. Stickers everywhere - 'Carna Tiges, Put a Tiger in Ya Tank', etc. Paddy had a presence, though. My mates in those days were largely all Tiger supporters and the first person that they ever mentioned was Paddy - a hero-like status, and he could do no wrong. He actually did a good deal wrong, come to think of it ... but in a charming way(?) and the apple of that monotonous Richmond supporter throng. An untidy footballer, at best; strangely this was largely due to those enormous ankle boots with the up-turned toe that he wore (White Diamond brand I suspect). These were great footy boots - wore them myself - but no-one else's toes turned up like Paddy's. He had this larrikin image at all times - and the 'Paddy' instead of the 'Patrick' gave him a leprechaun status but very much larger than the traditional Irish pixie - amid the very deepest jest and jangle of the Irish and thus, widely celebrated, loved and tolerated despite (let's say 'occasional') flaws in technique. As stated before, he still gave his heart and soul to the RFC, and never stopped trying for team success. He attracted large crowds to the Richmond matches, and was rightly and boisterously applauded by his fans, particularly when something onfield went correctly for him. A great past icon of the game we all love.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
