update for the news jordon is to be a rookie?

I haven't seen anything official from the club but I'll take your word for it ?

image.png.c32850f1575e57ff69cb46eee7ccc75e.png

Edit:  This is the latest AFL list changes:  trade/list-changes.

Jordon is not noted as a transfer to the Rookie list as those from other clubs are.

I'll leave the chart as is but for anyone reading this, Jordon's list status is unclear.

Looks like 2021 will see a set of mid-priced veterans retire as well as a few mid-low priced players who are in that 'can play but not reliably in best 22' range who will likely be moved on one way or another.

Gawn and Oliver are scary contracts to get sorted out in this time of unpredictability.  Salem also, and we may even see a problem with the Weid if having BB there changes the dynamic.

Back-ending will have to be our friend, I guess, because over the next couple of years we will have a truck-load of expensive contracts ready to be savagely cut when their turn comes around, and as soon as 2021 we will be bringing in something like seven new kids on minimum money.

You cannot delist Neitscke as he has been promised a contract in 2021 already.. That's final.

Bingo !  you deserve the likes.

Regarding this Rookie status it doesn't affect selection availability any more.

Rookies used to have to be upgraded yo be eligible for selection.

Now I can't remember seeing Jordan play on TV since the 2019 JTL practice matches vs Tigers and Lions at Casey I think.

Looking at the photos of him training he now looks physically ready to play AFL seniors in size and physique. Hopefully he gets given every chance along with Sparrow Bedford Neitshke and our new draft choices in the intraclub and AFL practice match series. If his ability can match his body we might judg have a player on our hands.

Also the Jacko summer weight program looks to have started to build a footballer into a man from a boy which bodes well for us.

Hopefully Riv  and Kossie also are spending time in the gym on the weights!!

The AFL Wash Up with Cleary  snd NatcEdwards was a very mundane tread water for 2021 for the Dees

. I might be biased but I cannot see us going backwards in any way given a good run with injury also  our youth development potential plus the Ooze factor on our football and game plan.
Only time will tell of course but I am confident we are on the right track even if the Coach is under pressure to deliver.

I think the main pieces are in place, winger and another small forward notwithstanding, but all eyes will be on Goodwin from Round 1. Time for our coach to deliver consistency and results.

With Bowey, Laurie and Rosman added thats means we have 36 primary and 5 rookie (incl Bradtke as a cat B). Further additions? 1 on primary list and 1 on rookie list??

Some chance we take a rookie tomorrow and a spot left over for a train-on player that can be added nearer to start of season.

We have recruited two flexible small fwds and a flexible wingman.  We have addressed our needs.

No gaps on the field any longer.  Get them to gel.  A bit of experience.  A consistent game plan. This is our premiership list.

Hey @Lucifer's Hero

Going by your contract list, does this mean we can have up to 2 rookies still? I'm tipping we'll have a player or two train on and take one with a view to save a selection for the mid-season draft.

I'm not entirely sure whether it is one or two as there is some confusion about the mix allowed to get to a total of 44 players.  There are AFL releases with conflicting info.

So we have at least 1 'A' rookie.  Could be 2 depending on interpretation of the rules.

Yes.  Just waiting for the dust to settle on the drafting and will start a new '2021 List' thread with all the updated info.

Do draftees get a 2 or 3 year first contract? Thinking it maybe 2 which would have Bowey, Laurie and Rosman needing to re-sign at the end of ‘22?

Oh, my!  Great pick up.

Will post a corrected table asap!

Thanks for noticing.  Correct table:

This paints quite a different picture - we won't be caught out by a lot of long - term contacts with 28 players (excl rookies) coming out of contract in the next two years.  It goes a long way to reducing our player contract risk.

While it gives us less leverage over players who may want a trade it also protects us against the TMac scenario where his sal package was to big a hurdle for other clubs to take on.

Again the question ... what spots do we have left on the list? One primary list spot and one rookie list spot??

two rookie spots, both for SPP. currently 36 is minimum senior list size . 4/6"A" rookies and 1/2 "B" rookies

so next year we lose

Hore, Jetta, Jones, Smith, Van den Berg,  ANB and maybe Weiderman if his performance doesnt improve

Thats about right in my opinion

Only Gawn, Oliver and Salem are "must-sign" next year.  Weideman probable.

Let's see how the list respond to the combined might of our coaching group, with OOze and Williams joining the group there may be some real surprises that leap out of the pack in 2021. I really liked Richo's comments "that when players get used to getting a game and gradually improving to a consistently high level, they then start to Want Team success and want to be up on the Dias getting their Premiership Medals, etc", or words to that effect. Richo indicated that he considered that the Team have reached that level of desire/hunger??

so who knows which players will kick on and which players get found short, only time will tell.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
