Thanks to those who attend training and write reports for those of us at work. My two questions:

1. What is the current status of Vandenberg and Kolodjashnij? Are they in full training with rest days or are they still on light duties? We can't afford to carry multiple fringe players on the injury list all season again.

2. Are there any signs that Hibberd can turn around his recent decline, or is he simply playing out the final year of his career?

1. Neither was on the track today. From pictures and reports the other day Vanders was on the track albeit on a modified/non-contact/more than just rehab program. I hope he re-joins the main group after Christmas but I have no idea what the actual timeline is. KK for mine is a big worry. Wasn't there today and has been sporadic in appearances or in rehab.

2. Kicked out on full or missed targets a few times in match sim. Wasn't concentrating on him during the session as there were others I wanted to see.

Hibberd played on Fritsch for a bit of the match sim and made on great closing spoil and took a nice mark. Fritta got him once or twice as well. He looks fitter and still has more defensive smarts than most of our players. He had a few nice kicks as well, it just seems like he's off in his kicking on the run.

Not sure if that's fatigue, feeling perceived pressure now he's lost a little speed or a confidence to technique error.

I'd like to see him balance up and go for shorter smarter targets. He expects to outrun opponents and launch it 60 like he used to and I don't think he can do that with the same reliability.

Lets hope the kicking improves. it is disappointing to hear of kicking out on the full and missed targets during training. Sure it happens but it should be at a minimum. Given that turnovers was one of the serious problems this season it is important that there is a major improvement otherwise it will again cost games.

As much as possible training should simulate match conditions. You play as you train.

On this point we have a few players that kick magnificently during these drills. Steven May hits targets lace out on the run with 40 to 50m passes.

Can't believe an AFL club is using the Mark Williams Ball, this is the one with the yellow line up the middle to teach kids how to drop the ball correctly

Can't tell if you're pleased or disgusted.

On the little we saw of him last season, his kicking was 100% the thing that surprised me the most. He is a beautiful left foot kick.

This is December, there are going to be kicking, handball, marking etc errors, hopefully by the end of March they will be mostly eradicated

Is there a point to reporting them?

If so, Bedford didn't miss a target today

Personally I am glad they are using the ball with the stripe, simple guide, so no over thinking, wouldn't surprise me if it was Lewis' idea

Now all he has to do is stay off the injured list.

I appreciate the efforts of posters to keep us informed and feel like I can handle the truth about a few errant kicks.

If I was in a socialist country they may want to hide me from it.

  • POSTGAME: Hawthorn

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
