Was just reading that the projected #1 pick is a Western Bulldogs Academy player.

So they already have a great list and will now add the best under 18 talent despite not even owning a top 10 pick.

What a scam.

yeah it's a joke and it has been for years. Even Geelong are still benefiting from the father and son rule with Hawkins arguably the best player in the comp for about pick 40 or something.

Dogs also got a few handy FS players in Wallis, Liberatore, West.

Cats got Scarlett, Hawkins, Ablett, Bews from FS.

But the NGA was a strange one and glad to see it will change.

I don’t actually think the Crows will bid for Ugle-Hogan. I think that will be left to the Kangas at pick 2. Dogs will get a huge boost from a biased system.

Anyone notice how we never have picks in the 15-25 range?

I bet its been a decade or more since we picked in that spot.

If Adelaide or Norf bid for him WB will need to use up 2400 points (3000 - 20%) which would be their first pick (now 12) and probably their next 2 picks. Or they could go into deficit into 2021, like GWS have this year.

That's  fair whack for getting pick 1, especially if he does a 'McCartin'. Eggs on one basket, and all that

Or if they are smart they trade this years first round pick for a player or future first round pick or 2020 second rd plus 2021 second round.  If I was in the Bulldogs position I would be looking for a future first round pick, the NGA's stop next year except for NSW/QLD clubs.  They get a kid touted as Number 1 pick just need to ensure you have the points to cover.

look for footscray and the filth to do some trading i reckon - dogs with the likely first pick this season (ugle-hagan) and pies with the likely first pick next season (daicos)

I believe the AFL 'integrity' officer put an end to this kind of blatant draft tampering several years ago. I think it would've been possible for WB to trade this years 1st pick last year, but not this year, if that makes sense. Doesn't pass the sniff test

Currently 23, 47, 62 and 63.

With 23, I’d look to bring in players like Jack Carroll, Eddie Ford, Jack Ginnivan or Archie Perkins

OR

use in a trade deal to get Tom Phillips from the Pies.

i'm normally all over the draft boards, blogs and podcasts, but loving the fact i can have a break from all that weird addictive news chasing re: draft and trade period.. looking forward to getting into the EPL instead. see you in march dees!

He looks really darn good.  Hard to tell what is his natural foot, uses both hands too.  Ambidextrous would be my guess looked so natural.  Clean hands, good pace, lovely disposal to advantage, lot to love there.....Where is he meant to be going as in how high in draft?

One mock draft I've seen has him 9th, another 12th for what it's worth.

Apparently Melbourne has a few Next Generation Academy players in the 2020 crop but I don’t believe that they’re close to top shelf.

Anyone know more?

Totals scam. I've never understood how the academies work. Which teams have acadamies and why don't we have one?

We have nga just no good players in it.  It is basically zones for indigenous and first generation migrants.  The bulldogs have done nothing to develop the kid that is being compared to buddy, he is aboriginal and in there zone so they sign him to nga and he is theirs.  Biggest stuff up by AFL ever and changes next year

Yes he’s very talented. Probably goes 14-16 which means Saints or Cats are likely.  Dogs may try to swap picks to get into a position for trying to get him to the Kennel to join brother Jack!

Preuss & 23 for Geelong’s pick ?

He's exactly what we need in our midfield mix. Burst of speed, kicks well to advantage, wins his own ball, creative handballer, good agility, sheperds his teammates, looks a well rounded midfielder.

Not sure our clubs ready for this type of player... better grab another inside mid instead.

Elite kicking skills

Good pace

Runs the lines

Left footer

Wing or half back position

Xavier Robins - son of former Demon Haydn Robins- has had a great year in the Glenelg under 18s. On the fringes , he pushed up to get a few reserves games.

His testing at the State Combine are impressive. 2.98secs for 20 metre sprint (2nd place) and 6m38s for 2km time trial.

He is 184cms but only weights in at 74 kgs.  Needs two preseasons in the gym but is a possible late pick or rookie pick.  I think he would be a handy pick given his skills and pace.

Dogs can't, they are getting the player rumoured to be Number 1 pick, there first round pick is gone, that is why if we like a player around their pick find a way to get the Dogs first round pick they will be open to trade it out.  Might cost us future first round

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
