I'm not against these hybrid games but I do question the way that the AFL reserves the market for it alone. Need to build up some base support via lower level leagues etc.

The way that the AFLX concept was botched (it should have been grown in the schools like touch rugby and rugby sevens etc) gives little confidence.

I hear that the AFL has cancelled the Inter League Cup (not sure what it is called) because clubs have not had the resources to travel. (Nice spin is my take.)

They don't have money for the country championships but do for this crap! Makes sense Ireland is a way better jaunt than Albury for Gill and the boys.

In terms of interest and mind stimulation, very little. In terms of player injuries and out-of-regulation-skills-drills, I am totally opposed to 'international' rules for senior AFL players. Let the Reserves play the game if it must be undertaken. Otherwise, scrap the whole concept.

This is disgraceful 'old dee'...they've just left the country leagues to rot on the vine.

Their pay-packet should be linked to the real health of the game Australia wide, unfortunately it's not and down the track when Gill has moved on and done his damage I can see our football being relegated to being a quaint provincial game like Gaelic Football is now...

Meh it's likely I'll still be living in the UK at the time so I trip over the Ireland to see this could be good for a laugh and some fun, particularly as I won't be getting to any H&A matches next season.

This is almost interesting.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbnae

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
