Not just related to this comment but in a packed field Ralph is about as useless as any reporter.

To claim free agency is working because Ellis and Tomlinson signed with bottoms clubs and that cancels out Lynch joining the premiers is ridiculous.

You are completely right, my memory is wrong. Perhaps I was thinking it would motivate us to win a flag. Apologies and good research.

I was at that match. Very moving. The players linked arms before the match and played like they wanted to honour Troy's memory.

The team's efforts in milestone matches thereafter has been very poor.

Yeah, that first finals appearance in 12 years was such a let down

Fill your beer up Swyl, it's half empty

And the second final.

Was that a milestone Match?

(A club death 250th? 300th?)

No that was a Final

different topic...

I am loving the ‘pile on’ mentality right now towards the MFC. A LOT of these very same people thought we had the most talented list 12 months ago. It’s not just in the media but friends of mine are doing the same thing.

We went backwards this year no doubt, we have glaring weaknesses in a few areas no doubt. But an AFL list doesn’t go from most talented to complete basketcase in 12 months.

Idiotic statement.

Your opinion.

Why do you think Roos was so critical of the "veil of negativity" surrounding Melbourne? Because it, and the feedback from members, has a demotivating effect on the club and he realised the whole club from the members up had to get over it. But we haven't and it's back bigger than ever.

If what is posted on here has very little effect on how the club performs, which is probably true, why do we have so many on here who think that making bold and sometimes aggressive statements here about not "accepting mediocrity" and complaining ad infinitum will actually have an effect?  You can't have it both ways. It's a waste of breath and keyboard strokes, and really just boils down to whingeing, which has no constructive purpose whatsoever.

I'd say a first finals appearance in a long time is a milestone match.  Milestones (as a metaphor) don't have to be even numbers or associated with a special year.  They mark significant events.

Finals are a different Category as to what SK was alluding to

It was a milestone for normal people but for you it doesn't fit your agenda.

How'd we go at the Cattery in Corey Enrights 300th

Against Richmond after Tom Hafey's death

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight Swyl

No i would bring an M16!!

How did we shape up Round 1 after Big Jimma left us?

Doubt it will motivate. Different group of course but I well remember the first game after the tragic Troy Broadbridge death who I thought would end up a future Captain.Sadly we put up little effort in that game. And so the band plays on. The power Clubs dominate and we remain homeless, win less and unable to attract the best talent on and off the field.

We won that game ( round 1 next season ) by 7 goals.

Sorry to spoil the well researched narrative.

Is that this side,  No

But since you probably don't no we won both those games I asked about and the first final in 12 years.

By your logic the GF is not a milestone FFS.

Think before you type

No no no.

The conversation started by mentioning milestone games.

They are not Finals.

Finals are Finals

no one gives a rats about a 200th game milestone, if it’s played during September. (Except maybe yourself)

Don’t change the context of a discussion and then put the boot in.

Bollox, our first final in 12 years was a milestone if you think otherwise you're kidding yourself.

Please explain how a game after a death is a milestone ( this will be good)

Out first Final in 12 years was just that. A Team achievement over a Season

To honour Jim Stynes or Troy in Death is a totally different emotion, i was at both games, the vibe was heavy.

September is not that way at all, unless we lose.

I was at the Broadbridge game it wasn't a milestone. The team played the way they should for a fallen brother.

And you know what 10mins in and the 200/250/300th games aren't milestones either for a team. They are individual milestones.

Exactly. Milestones are individual

Finals are for everyone

That has been my point

it’s 1am

time to crash

You brought up the death word when talking about milestones.

Good night

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
