I think his asking price is also too much for our salary cap.

I was thinking that as well but we had the room for Elliot, why not Papley?

How much is he asking for?

How much space do we have?

Surely you don’t know either of these to have come to the above conclusion...

I think the deal between Sydney and Carlton is done basically in principal. the Swans maybe just don't want to lose him if they can't get Daniher.

I think the journos at this time of year go:

'Which trade hasn't happened yet? Oh yeah, Papley.'

MFC makes a move, gets a new pick.

Editor says, 'we need to link Papley to someone'

Journo says, 'MFC have a pick, are they making a play for Papley?'

It becomes a 'story'.

Hence is use of the word think, not know. He might think that based on weeks of speculation about his asking price and guesstimates of our salary cap position.

As an example I think hills price is too high for our cap

A few loose whispers we are in discussions here.  Very loose though.

Pick 3 for Papley?  Not in a million years mate, he's not worth anywhere near that.

He is worth 2-3 goals a game

That could be a few wins in a tight comp.

Statistically he's worth just over a goal a game, so not 2-3. You don't give up pick 3 for this type.

Another poster described Papley as a "poor man's Brent Harvey".

If you're a "poor man's" anybody, by definition you're not that great.  Second round pick at best IMO.

We need a player like Papley but having said that his worth this trade period has been extremely inflated. He's not worth a first round pick.

good lord Papley has turned into Gary Ablett Jnr in the past week!

Bit like that Frost bloke.

I'd be extremely happy if we were able to secure Tom Papley, but he's not the Messiah (nor a naughty boy!) and not first round material, as others have already stated.

Amazing form Dub.  He didn't coat hanger a single player either!

Trade radio reporting his manager just walked into the room. We'll know where he's going shortly

Was he carrying brown paper bags?

So we give it up for an 18 year old and wait 3 years?i know the logic, you are going by.

Papley including goal assists is worth 2-3 goals a game. He is ready to go.
The MFC needs to play finals next season

Roll the dice....

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
