I hope not. Or hope so. I'm not sure.

Gunston?

Clues:

  • A key forward (are correct to assume a big?)
  • Victorian club
  • But not pies
  • And not membrey or Bruce
  • A club who needs to shed some players or $$ this trade period
  • Would be a surprise

And backwardly updating this, in contract it seems.

This is the best thread of the period yet.

Really? Preuss was recruited as a back up for Gawn, with the understanding he'd learn from the best in the game and maybe take over from him in a few years. Perhaps get a few games with or without Gawn in the mean time. Not sure i'd call that a failure 12 mths down the track

I'm not sure that is why he ewas recruited. My sense is that ideally he play as a forward - and pinch hitting to give Maxy a chop out. He does not look like he is going to be a forward option.

If it was to play at casey for a few years and be back up for maxy, well sure that isn't a failure. But i'm pretty sure all concerned had grander plans than that.

And kicks goals against us. So that might rule the rat out unfortunately.

Update on clues:

  • A key forward (correct to assume a big?)
  • Has a current contract
  • Has a good record against the dees
  • Victorian club
  • But not pies
  • And not membrey or Bruce
  • A club who needs to shed some players or $$ this trade period
  • Would be a surprise
  • Has been mentioned on this thread!

My best guess is either Tim O'Brien or Gunston. Jon Patton comes in so they will definitely be moving on a key forward and I assume are moving some $$ away to make a run in at Whitfield or Cameron next year. Nothing has been said about Frost's move to the Hawks since it was first reported, and I reckon us trying to grab one of those two might be the sticking point between that deal getting done.

Yoko used the phases "excited by" and "not a battler".  That would rule out Tim O'Brien I reckon.

Gunston then? Would satisfy not being a battler thats for sure.

Apologies, but I was nervous about giving too much info and ruining the trust of my source. So, you can rule in ANYONE mentioned in this thread, wether they have been ruled out by me or others or not.

Last post on this, I will leave you all to muse on it until I am allowed more, or the players name actually comes out.

You missed basil rat

Ha ha ha. I meant any of the people mentioned in the topic could be the one!

but I think you can rule out some of them given my first points, and the fact I was excited by the person (ruling out people like O’Brien)

Has the name been mentioned in post#262 ?

It was also said not from Collingwood I believe?

I got the impression from one of Yoko's posts that it was actually a small, not a tall. Am I alone in that assumption?

As per Yoko's post #191

" I will ease your minds and say it isn’t Cox or anyone from that club! "

So all Pies players can come off the possibles list.

Remove Elliot Cox hoskin-elliot, lynch Daniher Riewoldt I think too

still a lot of herbaceous forwards left

Someone suggested Noah Bolta for the Blues on the radio. He did do well against us lol.

I also posted that was it wrong to assume if it is a key forward but in the Elliot mould not necessarily a tall. So I got that impression as well. Saints need to clear cap space but it aint Membrey so I thought Billings.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
