Not really buying the Gaff rumours. I think it's coming up due to what the Cats are asking for Tim Kelly, but they pushed hard to re-sign him at the end of 2018. Hard to see that changing now.

For the sake of team balance though, do you invest a top end pick in a guy that is very similar to what you've already got? i wouldn't be doing it unless we were considering trading out one of Angus or Viney.

I'd rather just take pick 3 to the draft and pick up Lachie Ash.

Don’t doubt you, but there is the concept of over-supply (one paced mids) and need (speed speed (Frost), ability to break a tackle (Kent), ability to hurt with defensive intent...etc)

He is captaincy material and good stock so that is the big negative.

Geelong don’t need a high pick for Kelly, they need a mature quality mid for Kelly, as they are of the belief their window is still open (Ablett, Danger, Selwood...).

Not rebuilding...

Yet.

Gaff, in my view, is precisely the player we need. Given his age i wouldn't give up pick three. But gaff and their first round pick (14?) might get the deal done?

They need 2 x 1st rounders plus a 2nd rounder for Tim Kelly. One of those 1st rounders might be next year. Think they'll give 14 to Cats

Surely pick 3 gets it done for Kelly?

According to AFL website WCE have resigned themselves to part with 2 x 1st and one 2nd

So what do the need to have that..?

Gaff at the end of last year was really appealing given that we’d made a preliminary final. The missing ingredient of outside gut running was there for the taking in the form of an RFA. It seemed ideal.

Fast forward to now, the completion of our season, the acceptance by many that we may still be further away than we thought, the status of the list, Gaff being a year older but, still playing very good footy...

Is it still a wise decision?

I’m not so sure.

14, another pick inside of 19 and 24

They are talking a future first next year along with 14 and 24, then a later swap of picks.

Big haul for the cats, but not Judd-like

Rumour starting to grow legs that Gaff could very well be traded this year. Not sure with whom or for what, just heard it's a genuine possibility.

Your onto something here Nev, A certain somebody needs our pick 3 to prize away a certain player from down the highway.

Who could that be??????

They should be Verrry aging old list, prepare for the bottoming out ...maybe as soon as next year! With Kelly out as well looking vulnerable!! Gaff plus another draft for pick 3 A huge YESS FROM FENCE!!

Kelly deal has already been done, albeit not officially. So won't involve us.

Yep just saw the news over here as well, this year’s first and second pick and next year’s first pick for Kelly.

I don't think pick 3 is enough for Tim Kelly. If you could be guaranteed to get a player as good as Kelly in the draft you would take him at pick 3 in a heartbeat, even knowing that you would need to invest in his development for 3-4 years before he comes into his prime.

Blimey, that's a steep price. Terrific player but 25ish and has only played 2 seasons.

Well this thread can almost be closed.

Not necessarily. The Gaff rumour is simply that the Eagles might look to move him on. Not that he was ever to be involved in the Kelly trade.

Interesting, a couple of work colleagues (Blues fans) told me earlier today the Blues are considering making a play for Gaff. They claim to have a reliable source from within and they couldn’t contain their excitement at the possibility.

If true not sure how they fit Papley, Gaff and even Martin in.

2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best.
