In the modern game you have to be able to make split-second decisions off the half back line. I think that might be the reason that the Demons haven't re-signed him. Pretty well spot on excerpt for the reason why he haven’t re-signed him. 2 Quote

Older demon 2,830 Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 (edited) I know Frosty so I declare my bias and I will be very sorry to see him leave as I believe he has something to offer the club. Dal Santo stated this morning on SEN that he spoke to Frost last week and to date he has had NO OFFER yet from the club. This is in line with what his manager has stated despite what others have stated ie That his asking price is too high. I don't think you can trust anyone in the trade period. Personally I think the club would be mad to trade him but I don't know all the cards on the table. What we do know is that Stretch & Frosty don't have offers yet for 2020 which doesn't give one confidence that they are in the clubs ongoing plans. In Sam's case he is currently out of contract and we have May, Lever, OMac and Petty as key backs so as much as this site dislikes Oscar he is in contract. Sam is the easiest to move on as is Billy. In addition we have no insight into what the club expects moving forward and if they want to develop Petty more. I also note that in a recent article by Lever about rebuilding the backline he did not mention Sam. I don't like the decision but other clubs are moving on players. I cannot imagine why Saints want to move on Bruce, Adelaide haven't offered Keath much and Tomlinson is squeezed out at GWS. Every year players get squeezed out or traded. The club determines what happens and the frustration is our opinion amounts to nothing Edited October 2, 2019 by Older demon 4 4 Quote

Do you let them off the hook? You shouldn't. They're all as bad as each other. Coach killers but the coach isn't that good either. I'd clear the decks rather than try and single anyone out The players rule the roost and the club lets them do it. Most people I know that are non Demons all make the same observation. And the same types of players who rule the roost are the first to jump ship when it suits them. Edited October 2, 2019 by Macca Quote

Frost may well have overpriced himself to get out of the joint. Quite freely too without Hawthorn telling him to do so. Or the Hawks might have played that card. Or perhaps the 'too-high' asking price isn't actually true at all. Edited October 2, 2019 by Macca Quote

However sheer speed from the backline is not what we need but rather consistent and reliable ball movement. It's trite to say the ball in the air travels faster than anyone can run. If you look at richmond it was all about ball movement out of defence with kicks that retained possession either directly or to advantage. Frost doesn't fit that bill and if he wants overs then sadly he must go. The additional issue with his runs was he left the defence one short. I think that was the May heated discussion. A clearing kick to advantage leaves the structure intact. Agree with all this although as I've said earlier in this thread, pretty clear Frost was told to explore his options. So it's not that he is asking too much. We want to try and play some welcome AFL level defence next year. Quote

Clarko is a great coach and his record is terrific but he hasn't reached "genius" yet. He won 4 flags in a single list cycle which is fantastic but IMO he needs to back it up with flags in another cycle to be a genius. Recently he has been topping up with mature players to achieve that and has yo-yoed in and out of finals, losing in straight sets twice. He has bet the Hawthorn farm on mature talent - he needs a flag in this cycle. 6 1 Quote
dl4e 5,851 Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I am a bit of an frosty fan but how often do we see a player play well in his last year of contract then gets it renewed and turns to shizen. I think Frost may fall into that category. I will accept a pick in 30s as it may be beneficial. 1 Quote

What will be will be. I understand that people love the various permutations and back and forths, and good luck to them - i like reading it. But for me its bit like the weather. A persons opinion about it isn't going to have an impact on it. by the by not every one dislikes Oscar. He'll play plenty of senior footy next year, mark my words. 5 1 Quote

Oscar needs some beast-mode if he wants to become a better player. Put some real muscle on that frame and play with more aggression accordingly. His actual skills when kicking aren't too bad but he gets outbodied far too easily in marking contests. Thus when the ball hits the deck he's often out of position I'd keep him as back-up though as injuries are almost a given in the AFL. 2 Quote

The reality is it was picks 10 and 19 for Lever We got pick 6 for Hogan which could've been Ben King if we had taken it to draft night. Alas, we didn't. And Hogan has been quite the flop for Freo. Please name an ex Melbourne player that Clarko has improved? 7 Quote

Despite ANB turning it over and being a fumbler, he does have the capacity to play a role in a team defence and defence is everything these days. Comparing Frost's value to ANB's is pointless IMO. They're different players and bring different attributes. When ANB is playing well he's doing a lot of hard running that goes unnoticed. 2 Quote
