Weightman kicked two last night as well.

Agree, but Picket had more scoring shots then Weightman in his debut.

I'm just shaking my head that people are already calling this trade a bust because Weightman kicked 2 goals last night. I watched the whole game and besides his 2 goals he did nothing. Didn't even lay a tackle last night at all.

Pickett nearly took mark of the century against Richmond but you won't hear anything about that from our own supporters.

Someone on Demonland pointed this out a few years ago and ever since then I can't stop hearing it.

Drives me bonkers!!

As an aside, I actually don't mind BT so long as there's no "Lloooyd" playing. The pronunciation is insufferable.

BT is useless. His vocabulary is so limited that in order to emphasise a particular moment in the game, he'll repeat the same phrase over and over again.

That's his go for me too, mate. Still reckon Charlie will be alright.

Agree with all of that.  I thought you were making a point that Pickett has kicked more goals than Weightman, so apologies for missing the extra scoring shots.

And I feel as though most supporters see last night for what it was - Weightman had a fine debut, but he is already a different type to Pickett.  He might have hit the scoreboard but he didn't have the overall impact that Pickett has brought to the side since his debut.

Both clubs would be very happy so far.

The club did trial this in the last two games of 2019 @Pennant St Dee but unfortunately not to much success.

I think why its worked well for Daniel is because of his aerobic power and also low gravity strength. If you watch Daniel, he barely gets pushed off the ball that easily. Unfortunately Spargo is the opposite to all that.

I still think his best footy at junior days was when he was playing as a genuine midfielder then resting up forward. I remember his attack on the ball and the contest was manic in the same way as Viney. I believe this is why Goodwin loves him as that pressure small forward at this stage.

About as relevant as Ross Lyon.

Weightman was well discussed here prior to the draft and naturally we all have an interest in seeing how his career plays out.

Bruce is now a comical announcer.  He's truly hopeless.  His fawning for Weightman was on full display.

It was a good debut, however, they overlooked his poor kicking - other than his great first goal.  Small forwards can vary greatly and Pickett is more the type we need.

Just on McAvaney.  Try listening to him commentate and count the number of times he asks a question after he makes a statement.  You won't believe how often it happens and nor will you be able to correctly remember the final tally.

Here's a taste of what I'm talking about:

He's truly the pits and you'll never listen to his commentary the same way again.

And he does it EVERY single game.

you forgot to mention his goto statement issued every game, multiple times " (insert player name here) arches his back" what does that even mean? and how is it insightfull? for me, a great commentator provides insight i dont know about. To merely describe what i can see is unhelpful.

Surely if you are a small forward you have to kick goals. He is not fast, not a good kick, average tackler, gets  low possessions each game,  has no spring to take an over head mark and is too short. Should gone at the end of this year.

If he did would that have changed your opinion?

Point out what Weightman did on Friday night that Pickett hasn't already done?

I was Making no comment about their results to-date DD. I did not see the dogs game in fact have never seen weightman play. I just made the comment about  things that almost happen but in the end don't. If they gave flags to teams that almost pulled off things the MFC would have another 5 added since 64.

If I can answer that, Spargo is an overated player by many on this site. He is that far from Caleb Daniels it isnt funny. Should be probable delist for 2021 . Just has not got the tricks, no pace, cannot kick over a jam, tin, tackles dont stick but yes an occasionally reasonable ball user. However if you look at his first game this year Vs Eagles his 2- 3 turnovers resulted in costly goals.

Ok, all those that fell in love with Weightman's game would you really take him over Kozzie, given how he played today:  tackles, chase, team play, goal etc etc.

...and no ducking for frees.

Didn't get enough adulation from commentators.

This from the poster who declared one of our trades was a disaster until we start winning.

Sounds to me like you don't really know what you're talking about.

Weightman has what it takes to be excellent.

So does Pickett.

Remember what Jason Taylor said, these are 2 of the best small forward prospects since Cyril and Jamie Elliott.

Weightman looks very good, but I've been so impressed by Pickett's ability to just repeat effort in attack or with pressure from half back to the forward line.

If you've just been watching possessions or goals you've been missing out.

Kozzzzzzzzzy Pickett is so exciting. His pressure. His dancing feet. His energy.  My kids love him already.
Yes Weightman is a talented junior and would have been good pick but Kozzzzzy is the one. Such amazing talent.

Inagine when he builds a tank and is 80 games in.

Reminds me a bit of comparison between Oliver and Parish.

Weightman like Parish will be a good serviceable footballer.

Kozzie like Oliver will be a beauty...

Absolutely @rjay!

There will be games where he'll be rested, but for me he just needs to play as much games as possible.

Him and Jacko gaining more experience so early can only be good for their development.

Both will be very good, but Pickett is a better fit for our team. Weightman plays very similarly to Hannan, while Pickett offers something different with his extra crumbing and pressure.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
