Stop stating facts please PSD.

What are your facts ?

Hardly consider finishing 5th once in a decade ‘success’, but each to there own. Personally I hope Demons perform better then that but I guess to some people 5th once in a decade would be enough.

Ok then Einstein, who is this mythical candidate for the director of coaching with the exemplary track record that you speak of? Who should Mahoney have signed? Obviously Richo is not good enough for you, so you must have someone in mind.

All ears here champ.

So Mahoney has employed a failed senior coach to an as yet un named position while he does an internal review into amongst other things our coaching panel and deficiencies. Is this an episode of UTOPIA. Some speculate he may be a mentor or head of coaching. Masterstroke, get a recently sacked unsuccessful coach to mentor or oversee our struggles coach.  You could not make this stuff up. As for highly regarded, please, not by St Kilda. Always highly regarded on the way out the door.

Suppose we all see things differently.

Seems like a half reasonable coaching  ‘plan B’ for next year if there is no immediate coaching improvement in the early part of next season.

Next week should shake a few non performing or past it players off.

Step after that  ( might take a while to announce it due to list finalisation ) would be to really tidy up the leadership group.

And the wheels on the bus ......

Lyon, Clarko, Roos, Simpson,Choco, Malthouse. Plenty of others who have a better track record then Richo 33% win rate.

But yeh absolute master stroke by Mahoney, the guy at the helm as we dropped from preliminary finalists to 17th.

Champagne comedy!

You've also suggested Clarko and Simpson, the most successful current coach and the reigning premiership coach ... as if they'd take on a director of coaching role at a different club.

Rest assured, we're laughing at you, not with you.

Simpson & Clarkson? You’d like them to take a demotion to come to MFC from their current head coaching positions?

We had Roos, and he had no desire to continue in the position, and it would only serve to undermine Goodwin or anyone else for that matter, considering he personally held the head coach position himself.

Or Lyon, Malthouse, and Choco, all 3 of which would be actively harbouring desires to fill a new head coaching position themselves, again undermining Goodwin (or any other head coach’s) standing and authority.

You’re clearly far too clever for the rest of us mate. Well done.

Kick and squeal, I dont squeal tuppence. Go and snag, says it all. What is so special about snagging Alan Richardson? Garden variety coach. I note you did not address my comments about being snagged without a designated role. WHY NOT?  And please do not build Burgess into some kind of guru just get. Reminds me of when we recruited Diamond Jim. Hopefully he is much better than Mission but my memory is one season he was with Port they crashed and burned fitness wise after a flying start. All it is is we now have a AFL standard fitness guy. And how did we get him? The rotten SA connection. So either address my concern about appointing a coach without a role or do not bother responding DD

What a clueless response.

Did you have any brilliant fitness gurus that the club should have chased instead? I am also guessing that you emailed the club these names?

Why wouldn’t they if Mahoney is as good as some are sprouting he is?

Some posters here have some very low standards which is comedy gold.

No wonder we sit 17th mate, it starts from celebrating mediocre outcomes such as the Richo appointment, but continue doing so. That’s why the dees are the laughing stock of the competition and will continue to be when the supporters celebrate the recruitment of a coach who has never finished higher then 5th in a decade and was just sacked for underperforming, by the Saints of all teams.

Some people here think we are on our way to our next premiership by taking St Kildas sloppy seconds. You know it’s bad when St Kilda are laughing at us

CANT UNDERSTAND WHY WE ARE MAKING MAJOR FOOTBALL DEPARTMENT  APPOINTMENTS BEFORE WE HAVE COMPLETED THE REVIEW!!!

Just  crazy unless you really don't want a review and this is just for show and to shut the supporters up

The management of this club appears to be shambolic

Scattergun approach mate, it’s what happens when you have people without no prior experience in the job.

Yes Kent, I wrote similar somewhere else. The review is to find out amongst other things what support the coaching panel requires.  And then we charge ahead an appoint Richardson. His role is unknown, but lets assume it is to give support to Goodwin or oversee coaching. How will that sit with Goodwin, having a coach who out coached him only a month or so ago.

Supporter gets angry because Mahoney doesn’t convince Hall of Fame coach to break contract, retire from coaching to take up lesser role on less money at different club.

There’s a lot of ‘old man yells at cloud’ about this.

Not making much sense young un. No one called for a Hall of Fame coach, what code is that anyway? We foolishly thought we would have the review Mahoney is doing into himself and the footy dept to tell us where our coaching team needs to be strengthened.

The code is Australian Rules Football. There is a Hall of Fame and there are coaches that have been inducted into it. Clarkson will be inducted.

My reply was to a poster suggesting Mahoney should have convinced Clarkson or Simpson over to become a coaching director.

Nice try on the condescending ‘young un’ too. Didn’t mind it.

Coaches Hall of Fame must be one of those new fangled ideas I missed.

What makes you think the review is not completed?  Afterall, Pert and Mahoney have been working on it since June.  They are well prepared.

Fair dinkum some people struggle.

I have Olisik on ignore, for obvious reason. Sorry kids you go on ignore. Normally I only put people on ignore because of troll like behaviour or repeated offensive posts (and never because i disagree with their opinions).

But you are going on ignore because i fear if i read any more of your posts my IQ will plummet. So it is self preservation.

The last straw? Critising Mahoney for doing his job and appointing a respected, sought after assistant coach before completing a review.

Two obvious points.

Firstly, they had a review mid season. You know the one that saw Jennings and Macca get the Tijuana brass, with the latter opening up a spot for a senior assistant with extensive AFL experience (you know, like Richardson).

Secondly Richardson most certainly would have been picked up by another AFL club as an assistant. Having already established and created the need for an a senior assistant with extensive AFL experience (you know , like Richardson) and made a clear decision Richardson was the man you wanted it would be ridiculous to risk not getting him by phaffing around. That's now how such a cut throat industry works. There is a small window to lock in key appointments in and that window is now.

Mahoney has now inked two key appointments (both highly respected and in demand in their respective fields), critical in terms of creating some certainty at the club, which at a time when dees players (and players considering coming to the dees) are considering their playing options and/or how they will attack preseason is super important.

These appointments also help give fans, players and sponsors something positive to focus on which in some small way mitigates against the impact of such a woeful season. Imagine if we were still out in the market place trying to get a senior assistant on board and an elite fitness pro (neither of whom grow on trees)?

After the season we have just had we hardly scream destination club. Yet Mahoney nailed two key appointments. But Sorry Kids you don't rate him. Please.

Anyway its been fun. Bye.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
