With four matches to go for the Casey Demons, it’s still mathematically possible for Casey to feature in the finals. Much will depend on how many MFC listed players are available.

Glad about Buxton Whales being omitted. Watched him a few times this season and he does a couple of good things but then just switches off and puts in no effort. Doesnt chase, doesnt move. Big guy like him should be able to do more. He just looks lazy out there at times.

Spargo, Hannan and Maynard all out, not sure why the reasons given none were mentioned in any injury reports, but could they have been given the same treatment as OMac and sent away for special fitness training? Both Hannan and Spargo have looked to lose a bit of their spark from last year so maybe their trying to find that before the seasons done so they can work on hitting the preseason at full tilt?

Hate these games. I lived in Sandy for 20 years, Celebrated Flags in the Beach Oval Social Club.

Now i feel no connection

Thanks AFL...

the Sandringham/mfc relationship was not a great one. Should we have stayed around and worked on it... who knows. IIRC we were one of the first shared teams and it was purely a cost saving exercise. Strangely enough the old MFC reserves team were reasonably successful but it never really seemed to flow through to the senior team

The VFL is struggling and becoming increasingly irrelevant. Enjoy it while you can is my thought.

Spargo and Hannan not playing is symptomatic in the sense that teams are looking at fitness regimes other than match practice to re-invigorate players.

I am talking VFA days when the Mighty Zebras were a proud club in their own right

The AFL had no right to kill off the VFA, but they did it any way

Didn't Spargo just have a rest, shortly after the mid season break? Now he is AWOL again.

Our management of Hannan this year has been absolutely putrid.

Good to see Melksham and Stretch back .

He was suspended for a week recently - was that the one?

Heading down to this game, does anyone know what the parking situation is?

What do you think the main problem with Spargo's game is?

Spargo's biggest problem is that he has been developed poorly.  He should have played 3 or 4 games last year then gone back to Casey to develop & hone his craft not played 15 odd games its really the Club's fault.

Also not sure he has the weapons to be a small fwd - I reckon he should go to the mid field to hone his skills.

Not sure why he hasn’t been given a chance in the midfield.

Changing the dynamic of the midfield can be a handy tactic if used correctly.

The AFL wanted no competition on Sundays.

What they want, they took

No.4 one of my favs.  Dug the handball off the ground to Bailey for the winning goal in the only premiership I've witnessed (aside from plenty of other clubs ?) In 87 vs Eseendrug.

Run down from behind (with ball in hand...i think) at the G one arvo and king hit from behind by one of the dirtiest players I've seen play the game.  Pretty sure he returned in the second half with little impact.  Something that would never happen today.  He was out cold.  A bit like me after after half time at most games.

Giles used to regularly kick 8-10 goals a game down at The Beach Oval. Both ends of the ground.

He was a gun full forward

Can't really blame the AFL for this one, well not in the way you are talking.

The VFA was a dead duck as soon as the AFL started playing Sunday games, probably on the way out before that in reality.

The VFA was no competition and many of the clubs were insolvent. If anything the AFL/VFL have helped keep a few of the old clubs like Port & Willy alive, but really it's only a matter of time before they fold or move into some local competition...

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
