Was it luck, role change or a bit more effort on gameday? The ground looked as if it had wide flanks and deep pockets (certainly compared to Taxpayer Park from the week before).  Maybe the warm sunny conditions helped him too.  Anyway, an exhilarating performance for Kozzie….. just hoping for many more.

Jeff Farmer was my absolutely hero growing up and never thought I'd ever see another one as unique as he was. But these highlights below just gives me flashbacks.

So greatful Jason Taylor worked his magic and bought Kossie to the MFC.  My recollection is that he was somewhat a speculative selection for a small forward to go as high as pick 12 and from the start it was clear that Taylor had alot of faith in Kossie to make it.

Likewise I think it's clear that Goodie and the other leaders at the club continue to back in Kossie when he has a patch of quiet games.  And watching him play, it's not hard to see why.  Even when he doesn't have a big scoreboard impact, the pressure and harassment of opposition players, along with the sneaky little assists he provides team mates, he's always contributing and so often looks like he's just that rub of the green from splitting a game open like he did yesterday.  He also seems to have such a modest unassuming approach in the context of his extraordinary ability, that it's easy to see why he would be loved by his team mates.

Of yesterday's performance, I loved the amazing range of skills Kossie executed to perfection to slot his 6 goals home.  A couple of freakish snaps from deep in the pocket, that split second kick out of mid air, a couple of regulation set shots that he calmly put through the middle and a great running goal from outside 50m.  I actually really rate Kossie's set shots and his ability to go back and kick the more mundane goals is something that really adds value to him as a dangerous small forward.  Then there were those trademark dance moves to twist and turn, wrong foot his opponent and buy himself space to cleanly dispose of the ball, when most other players would get wrapped up in a tackle. 

About the only skill I'm yet to see him fully master is pulling down one of those screamers that he flys for every so often.  Once he gets his technique and confidence right to complete these marks, his skill set as an outright excitement machine will be complete.

Imagine what would have happened at Ports ground if May had have done to Rosey what happened to Kossie by their FB  on Sunday.

Just a quick observation about his goals in Alice.

In football/soccer there is a Hat trick and then a 'Perfect Hat trick'  - where the scorer scores one on their left, right and a header.

Kozzie essentially did the same for 5 of his 6.

One on his left, one on his right, a volley!, A mark and goal from on 50, and a goal beyond 50 on the run...

I really think this should be highlighted. 😎

Amazing goal to win the game in the last 12 seconds v Blues. 
 

Once-in-a-blue moon footballer. Had to laugh at his interview with Ben Gibson. He says all the right things….off the team script as it were, but there’s just no point trying to get someone like Kozzie ‘explain’ the way they play the game, or the nature of that game. He is a genius of pure competitive instinct, basically bred to become one with the ball, willing it into his possession and doing the best thing with it - scoring. It’s that simple, and why I love this game. It also makes me laugh when occasional critics say he shouldn’t fly for outrageous marks, or runs over the ball too often, or tries to take on too much. No, no and no. That’s the instinct, and it should never be second guessed.

He’s got a good leap - but he needs to have a good leap to even just be competitive at 170cms.

He’s quick, but not elite quick - not in top 20 tested.

He has poor-average endurance - doesn’t find much ball, averaged 10 touches.

His best attribute is he provides good defensive pressure around packs in the forward line.

Statistically he’s identical to Charlie Spargo. IMO the best outcome for his career would be an in form Jeff Garlett. Don’t get me wrong, he could be a handy little small forward and have a decent career, but at pick 8 you can pick up much better than that. It would be negligent for the club to draft him at pick 8.

Doesn't find much ball? ..quality small forward don't need to find alot of it and tend not to a la Jeffy, Cyril etc to make a quality impact.  How often have we heard the phrase "give me 15 quality touches vs 30 that are mostly rubbish or result in mostly turnovers anyday".

You can't compare him to anyone at AFL level at this point (statistically) ...he hasn't played.  Rediculous comparison.

What attributes does he have well let me name a few...

> Has a great leap ...equal 9th in the running jump at combine.  Can take an awesome specky and also alows him to keep the ball alive in the air at times (eg;  tapping a high bouncing ball or one off a pack to advantage) or defend from behind if needed.

> Doesn't lose his feet easily

> Fierce tackler

> Great follow up second efforts including repeat tackles

> knows where the goals are (sixth sense off one or two steps) and clever at reading / waiting off the ball and crumbing.

> Bides his time just outside the main scrum sweating on the spillage or loose ball without getting sucked into the contest.

If he already has all this at his tender age....imagine how much further upside there is with a few pre-seasons and experience at the highest level.

Yes the hairier the better it seems TR.  Also much kudos to the much maligned/berated Olisik who (amongst many other favourite draft picks he put up) was on to Kozzy many months before i was (unbeknownst to me).

I can’t trace the details, but I seem to remember earlier this season, or maybe post 2021 🏆🤗 some stats comparing Kozzie with Cyril Rioli and Eddie Betts at the same stage of their stellar careers, and that OUR Kozzie was ahead of them.  Seems that the sky is the limit.
