On trading pick 2 , I don’t think anyone is suggesting we trade pick 2 straight up for Brad Hill.

The question would be whether we trade pick 2 for Hill AND Freo’s first. Currently that’s pick 7, and i could see it dropping to pick 6.

With a bit of horse trading it’s not impossible to see Langdon included in the deal. Should we be exploring whether we could walk away from this trade draft period with Hill, Langdon as well as someone like Dylan Stephens (Ash or Serong are possibles here too)? We could deal with our (glaring) immediate needs and get a first round talent in one deal.

A lot of the commentary around pick 2 is predicated on Anderson being the player available at 2, but I would not be surprised (assuming that GC aren’t gifted a priority pick at the start of the 1st round), if GC went with Anderson at pick 1. Rowell may have a few more runs on the board, but Anderson is 10 cm’s taller and can play in other areas of the ground. If I’m picking first, I’m leaning toward Anderson.

What if it wasn’t Anderson, but Rowell we were talking about being the player available at pick 2? Would we want to pick the pure inside midfielder if we held pick 2?

Interesting post Chaser and would be even more interesting if the trade period was extended to draft night with live trading of picks

It would be the next step in the evolution of live trading. Won’t happen until players association tick off players no longer having power of veto on trade destination. Maybe when next collective agreement is negotiated.

Langdon better than Hill today. Both individually are worth an early second round pick and nothing more. Either would be a good addition to our midfield for years to come.

You know I posted in the Freo board about a trade Brayshaw for Hill, and I got smashed from pillar to post saying that’s complete unders ?.

I’m all for chasing to fill the gaps we need, but we must be careful. Nobody is promising us that we won’t waste this window, and if at the end of the next 4,5,6 seasons we end up with no flag and having spent all our early picks on older players trying to snatch one, we are staring down another decade of pain.

To be perfectly honest, right now, one even two top quality players are not going to be the difference between 17th and 1st.

Serves you right for talking to Freo supporters.

I think if it was anyone other than the Suns, they’d be picking Anderson at 1. But GC need more solid can’t-miss players like Rowell. Anderson is more like a Bennell.

I'm tipping Anderson will be the number 1 pick in the draft. Gold Coast will take him.

they already have those types...the suns need a steady reliable mid, with foot skills

Foot skills. We need 8-10 more players with foot  skills.

Foot skills are overrated.

It's the game style that enables players that have good enough foot skills (they were drafted AFL players afterall) to hit targets easier.

Richmond's foot skills are okay, as are Geelong's, but only Hawthorn under Clarkson 7 or so years ago could say their kicking was above the rest. West Coast go nicely too, but I think people get foot skills wrong.

hitting targets (team mates or the goals) are kinda important.. we need way more with foot skills. less bull at a gate rush it forward types

Langdon, Anderson AND Hill WILL be Demons in 2019 - barring a major hiccup. Langdon is across the line - Suns taking Rowel it’s a Monty.. Hill only talking to Dees & Hawks, fact! But word is our offer to a Freo is far superior (likely 2nd rnd & pick swaps maybe young player). Also some spec around that it may also involve Langdon & Jetta but that’s just too early on to know. Both Brayshaws receiving spec both ways also yet odds are astronomical either gets moved.

Anderson is the light at the end of a shitty tunnel of a year, No chance we are trading the pick unless it’s super deal ie 2 for Hill AND Langdon, even then we’d want a top 15 pick back by throwing in 2nd rnder.

Thanks Nudge. IF this pans out it would do wonders for the membership next year. We almost need an off field coup like this. Anyway....may you or your sources be right , a bit of hope is sorely needed.

Yes - we ALL do! AFL Not compromise another draft for those incompetent buggers.. best they’ll get is start of 2nd round that’s all that’s in rules to give now anyways!!!

So are you saying Freo are after Jetta for Langdon and Hill for a 2nd rounder? Sounds ok, if Jetta wanted to go back to WA, but it's not really been mentioned before.

If we somehow do end up with pick 3 or suns stun all and pick Anderson - then pick 2/3 for Langdon/Hill is a near certainty - so barrack for whichever outcome you prefer - but I’m telling you, Anderson is EXACTLY what we need and from R1 next year will show it.. I’d we get all 3 it’d be the biggest coup the clubs ever had in an offseason!!!

It is not possible for me to disagree with this post any more than i do. Scratch that.

On reflection I disagree with this post even more than i originally thought.

There it is! The historically most exciting (and comfortable) time of the year for a Melbourne supporter!
That's not to say I don't love the speculation and inside info - I absolutely do.

Good stuff, Nudge. Christ I hope you're right!

Would love him at the club, wouldn't be paying much more than P20.

Perhaps we can do P20 and swap our 3rd round for their 4th round pick.

In terms of draft points this would value B Hill between P12-P15.

I am starting to warm to the idea of us picking up Brad Hill, although given his value i can't see it getting done unless we are willing to trade Angus. I know a lot of us would feel a bit aggrieved if that happened.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
