Thank goodness.  Hopefully that means we are closer to locking up the Frostmeister.  No more defenders until 2020 trade period pls.

Reckon? From that article: "Melbourne has seriously lowballed the out-of-contract key defender, who looks certain to reject that contract offer and join a third AFL club."

The Age also ran an article on the Frost situation which had a quote from his manager, who said we hadn't yet tabled an offer to him but preliminary talks had been positive.

I don't know who to believe really.

Lots of mixed messages ...not unusual at trade time GM..

...."When contacted by The Age, Frost's manager Anthony McConville said he was yet to receive a formal contract offer from Melbourne, but he was confident the two parties were having positive discussions."

Keith of to the Doggies.  Things starting to move a little at Adelaide.  Will obviously ratchet up across the board from next Monday...

ADELAIDE defender Alex Keath has requested a trade to the Western Bulldogs.

The 27-year-old informed the Crows and other interested parties – including St Kilda – of his decision early on Thursday afternoon.

Doggies improving by adding a CHB and a FF.

Huge loss for us.

Who do we have to play as a key defender now?

This was always going to be just banter......Why would he come to the Dees for a start? I mean with Lever, May, Oscar & Frosty he was never going to get in.

Hard to believe after 18 games for the cows this season that they would let him go?

That's bizzare.....

He's about to turn 28 and has bobbed around on cricket and footy lists for years without landing a big pay day. This was his one chance to get the kind of contract that makes over a decade of pro sport worth the effort (compared to his peers). He's taking that chance and the Crows probably can't do much about it.

Adelaide are going to be paying Jenkins and Betts not to play for them next year as well as taking as many top 30 draft picks as they can get. It's as an aggressive a rebuild from a non hopeless team as I can remember and I think it's very wise.

Short term improving, long term has me wondering if Keath and Bruce are actually better than Lewis Young and Schache who might be relegated to the VFL. Or if 3 talls at either end is the desired set up, down back maybe, up forward I don't like the Naughton, Bruce, Schache combination.

Their coach does very well when given 22 adequate players who fill positional needs and play together. Start giving him options or deficiencies and the man goes a little haywire.

Yep.

That is poor.  Bulldogs force him to cancel a holiday to have surgery that Adelaide didn't think he needed then don't get the deal done.

Does this mean he could walk into the pre-season draft?

Could we pick him up for nothing if of course, Gold Coast have no interest?

Apparently Crows have a 2yr low-ball contract available.  So I guess he could walk

Its a terrible situation for Keath:  Crows low-ball his contract but demand high draft picks.  Bulldogs offer him big 3+1 contract but only want to offer ho hum draft picks.  Keath the meat in the sandwich.

We could pick him up but I'd say we have moved on.

GC Suns in the box seat here

be funny if he ends up at gc17 via the psd as he was originally signed there was a 17 year old pre-draft listing before deciding on cricket

Apparently Dogs identified an injury that required surgery that Crows knew about (but their docs said surgery not required).

Injury flared up and he's gone in for surgery and will miss first part of the year.

Dogs didn't want to pay original trade price, and deal has fallen over.

Could be quite a cheap pick up for someone.

Apparently Saints medical staff identified same issue as Dogs and came up with the same outcome

I'd definitely pick him up as a cheap option.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
