This will be a big game for the Casey Demons who are under siege because of the long injury list at the club.

Just treading water with only 10 AFL listed players.

Tom Boyd and the Weid..... a certain amount of disappointing symmetry

May they run free and both kick 10

Schache is probably the better comparison, both in the same draft, with Schache at 2. He's only played the 44 games, but seems to escape the same outside scrutiny as Weid (like how Weid was compared in a Slobbo article this week to Jack Silvani but no mention of Schache, Francis, Parish etc. from the same draft).ย ย

I think this game will be interesting. Keeping a close eye on the younger ones like Sparrow, Chandler and Jordan.

I'm keen to see how Sparrow goes as an on-baller. Pardon my ignorance, has he played that position previously?

My mate taught him in SA. Said he's a ripping young kid.

(PLEASE): Could someone do an analysis onย  65. L. Wale-Buxton after the game. I have heard good things about this fella up North. Gets into it and often unstoppable. Multi-pronged skills outside rucking, as well. Fit and fast. Etc. Cannot get to the game (interstate) and seldom pick up a broadcast in Sth Aust.ย

Has he nominated for a draft previously and therefore eligible for the mid year draft? Sounded like he had a great game last week so might get snapped up if he's in it.

No idea, other than word of mouth about his applications. If true, a good get, as we need a big fella with mobility and purpose. Hope we get some information on him rather soon.ย

Shhhh. ย We lost McInerney. ย This bloke Wales-Buxton is AFL grade. ย

I have read during preseason here that Toby Bedford is going to be a player based on training.ย ย How has his form been this year? Opinions on whether anyone thinks he will develop into an AFL player and what type of player?

Any relation to Peter?

Pressure for places and development is vitally important, even with our current injuries and depth issues.

Hoping for big games from Weideman, Petty, Spargo, Baker and Sparrow.

The skipper Mitch White scores Caseyโ€™s first ย - 1.1.7 to 4.2.26

Corey Wagner and Tom Sparrow doing well in a team with very few games at AFL between them.

Edited by KC from Casey

Petty terrific down back taking 3 or 4 marks most contested. Cory Wagner very busy. Weid in a lot of play. Casey with the wind this quarter. It's not all that strong but a definite advantage.ย

As BB said, Petty has taken some nice grabs down back.ย

Petty should be playing AFL footy instead of Oscar. I have seen enough of Oscar and im sorry but he is a spud.

Get games into him and start developing him while May and Lever are out.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

When the Demons blew their 46-point lead at Marvel Stadium in Round 20 last year, the fallout was enormous. Like an event straight out of a Shakespearean tragedy, Melbourneโ€™s final-quarter collapse left fans reeling and the club grappling with the aftermath.ย

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
