Not much else on the key forward front at other clubs.ย  Anyone of decent value is getting a game and unlikely to move, those that arenโ€™t getting games are untried (Toby Wooller, Patrick Kerr).

Kerr has a lot of upside I think

Wont get a look in at Carlton and would probably only be a depth option with us as well, but his skill set is interesting as a kpp forward depth optionย

Pass.

Well aware of that, but if he goes it'll likely to the Hawks for a 4th rounder, as another salary cap dump, which I reckon would be worth the gamble on a 1 year deal on not much. He's best in 2016/17 was seriously good.ย

He re-signed this time last season, now out of contract end of 2020.

Edit: Just read that eight weeks after re-signing he was being shopped around due to GWS wanting to conduct a salary cap dump. I take it they freed up the money by getting rid of other players. I doubt heโ€™s gettable now.ย

If Hawthorn offered him 2 years, or even 2 years with games played incentive for 3, would you match it?

I don't think a 1 year deal would get him to us.

With 3 knee recos, only the Hawks doc can fix him

Ya know contrary to many I think the first thing I would fix is our defence... and that might ripple through some other areas... I only have three certainties in my 2020 line up...

xxxx May Lever

Frost xxxx xxxx

i would target Keath and ZacJones for the half back roles and someone quick and a good kick for the pocket from GWS... Jetta Hore and Hibberd are depth not best 22... wildcard is Hunt to pocket

Then I would look at the one pace midfield...ย

Gawn Oliver xxxx

xxxx Brayshaw xxxx

Langdon for one wing seems a given with Jack Martin in the middle and someone quick and a good kick on the other wing ???? ... or rotate TMac and Tomlinson ..depth here is shin deep... Harmes, Viney, NJones, Baker, Jordanย

The forward six are shrouded in mystery...

Salem TMac/Thomlinsonย Melksham

Xxxx Petty xxxx

Get a little Tiger Butler Bolton or Baker or two tigers or another little Giant but they have to be QUICK ...depth up the pointy end is not that sharp with Weed Hannan Spargo Bedford Lockhart ....ย

so in order .. get more run and rebound from the back 6 ... get more run and attack and defence from the mid 6 ...get more run and run and run and goals from the front 6...

come on Dees, we can do this...

What do people think of maybe trying to grab young big boy Fogarty off the Crows, you know, for next-to-nothing plus irony, as a disgruntled kid who isn't getting a game, is being played out of position in the twos, and wants more opportunities? An additional strong body, and there is no question at all about his willingness to compete and provide a physical presence. I'm not the first person to raise it...

https://www.fiveaa.com.au/shows/rowey-bicks/There-Are-Concerns-The-Adelaide-Crows-Could-Lose-A-Young-Gun

And Crows fans are fixing on his non-selection as one of the examples of how the coaches have lost the plot.

I'm sure the Crows would try to play hard, but eh, it has the advantage of being a trade that would for us be useful, but not really a necessity or urgent.

Also, I would just love it if the grand total of Adelaide's gains from the Lever trade turned out to be some lesser pick we give them for Fogarty, plus the increasingly minor pick upgrade they get due to their deal with Carlton (which they secured with our 2018 pick) and their current slide.

So he's a good kick and decision maker, and can take a mark,ย but not particularly quick?

More of a mix of Fyfe/Dangerfield/Stringer even Jaidyn Stephensonย style body andย game than a Bont from what I've seen. Can drift in and out of games and doesn't have that elite accumulation and pure skills but can win it pretty much any way and can use it with real burst and upside. If he was Bont he'd go pick 1. If he convinces a recruiter the rough edges and inconsistencies can be developed he'll be pick 1.

Would be a good get, but Port probably not keen to move him on and no word on him wanting out.ย  Plenty of opportunities in Port forward line coming for Marshall.

One player that fell out of the AFL system and has gone back and done well at state league level is Liam McBean.ย  Might be worth a look and would likely be a better option than Tim Smith as ruck relief.

What about Zach Sproule at the Gaintsย  Jay?

Asked about him over on /r/afl and got this response:

Quote

He's a KPF who's barely had 2 pre-seasons, is 19 and hasn't really been lighting up the SANFL. He'll get another few kgs on him and some more craft and he'll be in soon enough.

He's also contracted til the end of next year so I doubt mightily this is even a remote possibility.

I'm not sure we'd want to match what they'd ask for a 19 year old pick 12, given we have immediate needs for a big bodied physical presence in the forward line if Weid/Tim Smith are still in/out of the squad. No way would i want to use pick 20 this year or 20-30 next year on anyone but a 23-25 year old potential gun.

No, but I'd give him 1 with incentives for a 2nd. Wasn't ever pushing for him it was a response to a question about who else was available.

I also don't subscribe to the myth about the Hawks doctors being some kind of miracle workers who have better abilities then any others in the industry.ย

Word is they still have plenty to of salary to cut, but imagine that will come with impending retirement of the likes of Heath Shaw and Deledio. Wouldn't at least hurt to ask the question, would imagine a 2nd round pick would get that done.

Had forgotten about him. A bit surprised he hasn't gotten any sort of run in the seniorsย for GWS since being drafted. Definitely worth checking in on, wouldn't cost too much if he was willing to move.

Good athlete and showed some versatility, would be keen to see how his body is tracking after a couple of years in the system.ย

31 goals in 18 games last year and 25 goals in 10 games this year with an injury lay off.ย Very hard to read much in to NEAFL numbers but it looks like he's finding the ball and hitting the scoreboard. Cheers. Agree that NEAFL form is difficult to measure objectively, but he can only play what's put in front of him Sproule's also had injury to deal with this year as well.ย We don't have much to lose in asking and there's no clear pathway into the GWS senior team. Could be a match.

Think so. Was GWS academy eligible,ย  but got through to rookie draft by recollection. Was in the same forward line as Marshall. Not sure if that was a help or hindrance in his draft year, butย remember that he had a good patch in 2016 GF thatย helped Murray get back intoย the game. Just didn't finish off his good work.

Draft Requirement.... Indigenous talent x 5.

We have zero X-Factor.

Good call. Well worth a moneyball look. Far from a Hawthorn 'done deal' given the pressure on them now to regenerate their list with youth.

People listing Weideman as their go to key forward in 2020 mock up MFC sides are kidding themselves. He's had a 'mare of a year and remains unproven at AFL level.ย

Our current forward line is statistically among the worst that has ever been fielded since I50 numbers have been recorded.

Ben Brown is my first preference and I'd pay pick 3 for him. We won't be getting a shot at Rowell or Anderson as the Suns are a lock for a PP.

I also Red, a missed opportunity in my opinion. But you know the MFCย  hardly proactive and this could also be seen as a consequence of overrating the list which seems an emdemic problem of our club

They very well might have asked the question, then GWS managed to ship outย Scully, Lobb and Shiel who were all on much biggerย contracts soย they no longer might have had a need to get rid of Finlayson, without getting a really good return for him. Unless you know the full details, wanting a player and not getting them is not always a missed opportunity and rhetoric such as the above is just about having another shot at the club.ย

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
