Unless you’re the Suns and you’re given a priority pick to keep mates together...

I did think of that, although no one says Rowell is asking for that.

Have we convinced Martin yet? I’m not a huge fan but I can see him being a staple if he comes on board.

Martin

Bennell

Tomlinson

Langdon

All these guys are quite simply a massive injection of the outside speed and class that we have craved for so long!
Why split any picks if you bag 4 players like this? Tell the other clubs to stick it and get some very good kids.

I hope we’re backing ourselves to convince Martin to join us.

I am sure we have tried and Bennell may help if he is mates with Martin.

However, all the signs currently point to Martin joining Visy mob.

With a year to run on his contract, James Harmes signing of a 5 year contract is evidence we are freeing up some room in our cap to make a big play this year.

I believe the Dees will take Martin in the PSD and trump Carlscum with Bennel also coming as a DFA.

I hope not. It's big $$$'s for someone that has never really done anything.

I believe Martin can be a very good player. He will go to another level which ever club he lands at. He is only 24 so has plenty to give.

I would expect he plays half forward with stints in the midfield. Capable of easily being a 40+ goal kicker.

Just a gut feel or something you’ve been informed? Players normally end up where they want to go, at $1.5mil for two years, he’s going to end up at Carlton. Anyone who hopes differently is going to be disappointed.

Where did the $1.5M come from?

Has it actually been reported?

Only on here so it has to be true...right...?

It would stretch Carlton just as much as us you’d think.
I think it’s a load horseshit.

Hope this true. I also believe that he will go to a new level in a different environment.  Would mean our trade period has addressed most of our run/skill levels concerns.

I wonder if North are regretting their pick trade now that we could land both Bennell and  Martin?

I gotta say for the rumoured coin he’s asking for I would be passing on him. I don’t know if Melbourne is playing games with Carlton, almost trying to rule themselves out publicly so Martin doesn’t nominate a stupid amount of money and then we swoop.

I’d say I’m 50/50 on him, if we get him then great. I won’t lose any sleep if we pass on him though.

I believe is my gut feel! No Sauces! ?

The Dees have a 5 year plan to win a Premiership! I think we are heading into year 4 or 5. They will pull the strings they need to achieve this success!

We sacrificed Pick 6 and $$$ to land May. We paid overs to get Lever, trading away 2 first round draft picks! We will do the same with Martin $$$, however get him for free... The Dees will and should be ruthless in there approach. The time is now!

Langdon, Tomlinson, Martin & Bennel along with Picks 3 & 8 is a significant step in the right direction.

What would that have to do with the pick trade?

That pick wouldn't be used on either of them.

Meaning that we’ll be an obviously better side and win more games with those two players added (should Harley ever be fit again), delivering Norf a worse pick than they were expecting

Oh yes I forgot about that. Hope you are right. Would love to have given North pick 18.

I'm not sold. Potential is such an ugly word. At 24 he should be established, and when he puts a big price on his head and noms a club, I say let him go there. Daisy MKII.

He hasn't had a single game in his now 6-year career where he's been BOG or at least turned a game on its head (e.g. Daniel Rioli).

Send Daniel Rioli to the Suns and see how many games he wins off his own boot. Martin is a gun and comparing him to Rioli is an insult.

Dunno about an insult but you're right, players like this are icing on the top, they don't thrive in bad teams (cue 'why is he coming to Melbourne then' comment).

Things have gone quiet around these here parts...   come on Jack, come reunite at the Dees with Harley, Steven and KK!

Because he's not coming, it's quite simple really.

People need to actually start accepting that he's never coming to us. He's hellbent on Carlton and that's it.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe
