Anyone else noticed the total drop off in quantity and quality of content on the official website over the last 3-4 months.  It’s a complete dogs breakfast at the moment.

I hope whoever is in charge gets a rocket.  I understand that over the preseason not a lot happens, but I hoped that with R1 upon us it might have stepped up, but if anything its gone backwards.

- No interview with one of the coaches discussing selection.

- Two debutants that we haven’t heard anything from.

- The photo used for the R1 team selection looks like (on my phone) its been taken with very the first camera invented.

- Jay Lockhart drafted last week - haven’t had an interview.

Last year there seemed to be an immediacy to the content where as soon as something was announced there was 1, 2 or 3 articles or interviews instantly.  Now it seems to be drip fed over a few days.

I’m really disappointed.

While Matt Burgan could be dry and monotonal in style he was very good at getting all the things you mention done and onto the website.

Plus, letting Robbo go part-time we get few interviews from him.  With Matt gone there is less and less material (In particular I missed the daily stories from the Qld camp covering the off-field banter).

Anyone know if Matt was replaced?

They are missed.

Don't get me started.

To be honest a very big cross against pert.

And for those who don't get what the issue is I respectfully suggest you don't grasp the imporatance in 2019 of effective online strategies (website  youtube, social media etc) in terms if fan engagemet, increasing suppoert, building the 'brand' and building tbe value proposition for sponsors.

Good job you didn't get started

The Official AfL app ain't worth a pinch of s..t on the bottom of my shoe compared to this site when needing info about the MfC. Just come to DemonLand, everything you desire is here.

Now steady on BB, nothing wrong with a healthy pre-rant rant.

Agree that there is no excuse for a slipshod approach to fan engagement.

Agree 100% with all of this.

Why did they get rid of Simon's Selections? It can't be that hard to interview the coach for a few minutes.

If they aren't going to interview the two debutants why wouldn't you do one of those hidden camera feel good have the coach deliver the news/call to the mum videos.

The Round 1 team image with the followers and forward line mixed up reeks of outsourcing the graphics to India.

The club has really dropped the ball on their content. They are churning stuff out, about 30 or 40 posts a week on social media, but it has no substance and soul.

They are good with the feel good highlights to music but you can't pin your hat on that stuff.

Pretty happy I can now access my membership barcode on the app, which means I won't need to worry about lining up and picking up a ticket tomorrow given my membership card hasn't arrived in the mail.

Good work MFC and Ticketmaster.

I've noticed. Burgo brings some bad memories back, but part of that wasn't his fault (a lot of his tenure fell during the most poo era I've experienced as a supporter). It was his job to put up the soft balls for the players and coaches to answer when a lot of us wanted to go all Elvis Presley on our computer monitors.

However, now you mention it, the amount of output on the site has been pretty average. SEO depends on consistent and quality material being put out on a regular basis. On that front, we have gone downhill.

Any news on the welcome to Melbourne game or our presence in Chinatown on Lunar New Year?

The website and associated social media of the MFC are abysmal and are a poor reflection on a club that has done a lot of things right in recent years. I would visit the MFC website once a month tops which, given my obsession with this club, is just extraordinary. Surely the sponsors are unimpressed that more traffic is not being driven to the site.

Sadly, I wholeheartedly agree. There are Demon fan pages and sites (like our very own Demonland) that pump out more engaging and fresh content than the MFC site at the moment. I thought the club was quite good at this a few years ago. Ironic how the drop off in content has coincided with our improved on field performance.

While on that topic, a big thanks to the folks here who write up match previews and summaries, record podcasts, write up training reports, start threads etc. It means a lot for fans like myself who aren't getting their fill from the official site.

The club has incredible access to players and coaches, yet I'm amazed that I feel more compelled to visit fan sites for my weekly Demons fix.

Agree. But we should be thankful this is what we have been reduced to complain about :)

Not sure about that, I'd say we still get a fair bit of content, but it just comes in different formats now, e.g. instagram stories.

I used to find the majority of content lame, boring, and either a regurgitation of what had been done better by the mainstream media, or sugar-coated club propaganda - either way nothing of real interest. We sorely needed a fresh approach.

I prefer articles and interviews to come from independent sources.

Having said that, more could be done, and will.
I understand we did have some unforeseen issues with an appointment that would have impacted this space.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
