Bit of a scrappy match.

Best thing: no injuries.

My other small takeaways - Brayshaw will take another step forward this year.  I thought he was great.  Harmes will continue his new found midfield role and do it well.  vandenBerg will have his best year.  And Sparrow has a very mature physique already.

Oh and I thought Oscar looked really good.  He's just going to keep getting better.

Both teams a bit rusty.

Sorry, i don't quite get your logic from that stats why the kick-in rule might be a negative for us

At the margin, the rule change will help the weaker teams. Last year we kicked more behinds than the opposition and we were then able to get repeat entries inside our 50. This year it will be easier to take the ball the other way.

Sitting along the fence I realised that I hate sitting on the ground level. Perhaps I've been spoiled by always sitting 1 level up. Also most of the play today was on the other side of the ground to where I was standing.

It was on the building wing 90% of the day  like you I was watching from the grassy knoll. I reckon the buildings mean shelter from the wind. Not that there was much today. Nice ground actually all day I was thinking this should be our home not the bloody pies. No use crying over spilt milk.

Yes thought simillar,     I did not notice Sparrow though   but then I did not know his number,

Did he play well ?    I think there were about 4 players I had little idea who they were.

Best I saw was   Omacs crunching tackle just in front of me, and then about 5 minutes later vanders cleaned up a magpie in the middle. really hard tough football, really great to see.  Nothing soft or nice about it.   Go Dees

This new learning amazes me, Wadda. Explain again how sheep's bladders can be employed to prevent earthquakes.

Sparrow didn't get much of it, but he also didn't look out of place.

No.32.  He looked similar to vandenBerg.

Kicked a nice goal from the south west flank.

Fair enough. I just hate watching repeat offenders...

You could always not watch if it annoys you that much

It was a preseason scratch match, I went expecting some rust

I reckon each side had 2 or 3 who looked like there hadn't been a break, the rest all looked rusty

Vdb is a take no prisoners footballer. At one in the last q omac poleaxed a magpies player (not sure who - young player I think) who took a while to recover. When he did finally fully stand up vandersloot bumped into him deliberately.

Id totally forgotten he was on his way to Sydney to look after the family business since the death of his father. What a great bonus for the club that he stayed. Funny how things start to go our way for once. Thanks for staying Vanders.

I watch in hope, like all of us.Anyway, I like the boy, I always have and it was great to see him back in action.

By the way, a few other posters were also annoyed by his disposal.

FIRST QTR IS UP !!!

Others to follow soon i guess.

Get it while its hot !! :p

hardly worth it. Only plays for a few minutes then says "Technical difficulties" and prompts you to resume from second QTR, which isnt on the club site yet. Sad.

It's where they belong.

Day release people must have been busy yesterday and centrelink must have thought it was a three day weekend.

The changes to kick ins will be by far the biggest change. The man on the mark being pushed right back combined with the ability to play on and not have to kick the ball to yourself means that the player kicking out makes it halfway up the defensive 50 metre arc before they are even confronted.

Can anyone explain why we need a goal square any more? It seems superfluous now....

1. determines the play-on boundary for kick outs

2. marks in the square can line up dead in front on top of goal square

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
