I'll also be furious.   I don't accept the line that players are more likely to be injured during training etc.  When that happens at least they are preparing for playing footy.  They have to in order to play well during the season, not engaging in a ridiculous event to show how clever the AFL bosses are.

I wouldn't be surprised if both pulled out.

Well, I guess I can live in hope.

Tommy's next...

Is it possible to pull a hamstring as a response to hearing your name called out by Eddie Betts?

I think a minor concussion is coming. Tommy did not perform to the required level during our random concussion testing program, no contact training recommended for 2 to 3. Such a shame he was looking forward to playing AFLXWYZ  or whatever it is called.

For those posters who have children or grandchildren who this product appears to be targeted at, it would be good to get your feedback on this site after the AFLX event (competition? tournament?) as to whether your children/grandchildren enjoyed it. It would be especially interesting if you were able to form a view as to whether it piqued any interest in those who previously had not shown much or any interest in AFL.

If it is for kids, why are they playing on a Friday night? Surely it would be better on a Saturday afternoon / evening.

Also, who's excited to see what Patrick Dangerfield wears as he enters the stadium?

Perhaps the target market is "older kids" - that is, teens and older - for whom a Friday night should work well. Or it's for the masses of international tourists without anything to do on a Friday night.

I'd click on that link except I don't want to encourage the idiots at AFL headquarters.  But I doubt my imagination will be worse than the real thing.

Whack. (Hopefully this Tweet, including the video clip is inserted properly- but if not, the text says it all...)

"I haven't talked about #AFLX much because I don't consider it to be a genuine competition," says @paulwkennedy. "I'd suggest that @aflwomens is way more important to the overall focus of Aussie Rules than some dodgy preseason competition that hardly anyone I know cares about."

Nah, but it's possible he dropped the bucket hat he was clutching,  when he heard the selection news...

On bending down to pick it back up, He, May well have done it, at that moment ?   ?

The four AFLX 2019 captains will build their superhero teams via a nationally broadcast Draft on Wednesday February 6. The Draft will be on 7Mate, Fox Footy, AFL.com.au & AFL Live App from 7pm AEDT.

Fair dinkum unbelievable.

I call this the “reverse draft” because I’ll be watching it hoping that we don’t have any players picked.

Bluddoath.

Genuine injuries I'd say

Only a fool would pass up the opportunity to earn 20 thousand dollars for a 20- 30 minute tackle-free jog around

Might even be more than $20k ... who would know?  They are not doing it for nothing.

Free money ... give me some of that!

So we have an utterly meaningless AFLX to follow an utterly meaningless big bash.

there is no soul in either of these, and seven will try to make them ‘meaningful’.

Multi-billion dollar global empires in UFC and eSports are silly past times? What cave did you just emerge from after a 25 year nap?

I totally understand the popularity but UFC is barbaric mindless violence.  Anyone who gets off on that stuff needs help.  Quintessential gratuitious violence.

As for ESports - get a life I say.

perfectly acceptable opinion. money doesn't prove it's not silly. ask kardashian or mafs for proof

I'm not a fan of either of them actually, but I'm also not arrogant enough to assume that something isn't worthwhile simply because I don't like it.

nor does a single persons opinion in most cases

my point stands. just because you don't understand the appeal of something, doesn't make it a "silly past-time". its actually quite hilarious watching you older blokes band together like this and aggressively defend your opinions on things you clearly don't understand, or even care to understand on any level.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
