Can recall every. Single. Season.

Be fantastic when Carlton are wooden spooners there as well.

Surely we gotta beat the saints?!!!

Stuff how long since a flag, I want the most flags, 17+ I would like to see 5 or 6 in the next 20 years. Preferably in the next 15. This is the ultimate bragging stat.

Its a nice stat to have - but as more and more teams are added to the competition in recent history, the less relevant it becomes. There was only 12 teams in the comp at our last flag - there's 18 now.

Agree to diiffer - the competition with Collingwood/Essendon/Carlton/Hawthorn will never become irrelevant. Teams come and go from UEFA Champions League doesn't male Real Madrids tally less significant.

Barbers shop had one of those.

I was born in 1961, so Carlton's drought is more significant to me since I have never known a dominant Melbourne, whereas Carlton spent decades dominating during my lifetime before turning into a basket case.

In 1964 Johnny Farnham had not yet retired.

But Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and JR Richardson (The Big Boppa) we’re dead. And so was I when I think about it.

You think therefore you am.

For the kiddies out there (meaning probably anyone under about 50) these were wonderful must-have household items. It was made of a stiff piece of paper (like a birthday card) with team names each having a small cut out section which slotted into the ladder. Every Saturday night (because all games were played Saturday afternoon) you could shift the teams around to ensure you had the most up-to-date ladder.

And you had to update it *yourself*? How could anyone live like that?!

Nah, we had these when I was in primary school (90s). I remember once in 1995 we were doing a random quiz and the teacher asked which team was at the bottom of the AFL ladder. I put my hand up and confidently answered, “St Kilda”. “Someone check the ladder please.” “It’s Fitzroy”, said some snotty nosed brat. The two teams at that point had spent the whole season jockeying for the spoon and it had been Fitzroy the previous week. Whatever cretin was responsible for keeping it up to date had failed in their crucial duties. I was ropable and refused to look at one of those ever again.

When we played in 88, it had been as long for us since our last flag as what it has been for Carlton now.  Hope that those role have been reversed in another 31 years with us having several more flags on the clubroom walls and Carlton yet to win another.

Unsure on this comparison. We would have been relegated from the AFL years ago haha

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
