Please feel free to list all the experts who had Fritsch in the top 40. I mean you're welcome to shoot from the hip like that, but it works better if you have something to back it up.

That's just my point, these so called "experts" don't have too much of a clue either, as no-one can predict the future (if they did, then there'd be no gems from late in the draft and tonnes of success stories from early on).

It is still very much a gamble, which is why i find it odd just how valuable some clubs place value on high picks. Give me trades of good player's of a known quantity over an unknown (albeit highly rated) quantity any day of the week.

Jay Lockhart is the 178cm Tasmanian who joined Casey in 2018. Impressed more and more as a solid small defender with good skills and decision making.  Would be very handy backup to Jetta.

Pick 62, 91 or rookie.

We're essentially in agreement then, as that too is also my point. While some clubs/people may rate a certain player (Lockhart for example) around Pick 60, us and some other clubs may see him around Pick 25.

What I do know is that Rawlings rates him very highly.

Is this the guy with dreadlocks who completely disappeared in the VFL finals?

You're thinking of Hutchins.

I'll be extremely disappointed if we take him at pick 28.

Unless it was pick 28 in the rookie draft.

Different types of players. Johnstone is more defensive and contested, Lockhart plays higher up the ground and gets more of the ball. No issue having 2 smaller defenders developing on the list if they are both wanted. We've got the list spots to balance the list with a number of needs type picks but also to take some developmental prospects no matter what position they play.

The luxury position is that both Johnstone and Lockhart are kept, developed, exposed. Immense value for Casey, potential value for the big league team in the near future. Several roles may well exist for both, in both teams -  both tough at the football.

Dion Johnstone was delisted.

I think a few people in here think that we will pick him up on the rookie list.

Well he certainly was delisted at an odd time just before trade week and adding to a long list.

I’m struggling to get a read on what we are going to do with the last few on the list...

Lockhart will get a late draft call up or rookie chance.

Dees could use pick 91 (probably be 83-85 after other teams use picks for academy and father/son point needs) or a rookie pick for Lockhart.

Jay Lockhart has more tricks than Dion Johnstone. Jay can do the mercurial at VFL level and has a classy left foot. He will be on an AFL list after the drafts.

Just as Taylor would want.

The fact he went missing in finals made his draft stocks plummet, rookie for me.

Wasn't that Hutchings who went missing?

Did Lockhart go missing too?

Lockhart had no impact whatsoever. Very disappointing in the finals.

in fact hes really not the type of player we need, will get drafted but not to melbourne I reckon

In a strong draft no way will he go in the top 60, last years draft was a every even draft, if we use either second round pick  that's not something taylor would  do, that's what BP would do, like  picking gysberts when he would still have been available in the second round.

Lockhart is probably pick 85-90 or rookie selection.

At best.

Thoughts on Lockhart not getting drafted? I personally think he was worth a late rookie pick and think he has more potential than corey wagner but interested in others opinions

I think his finals performances hurt him. Really had no impact whatsoever while Wagner was consistent all year.

Really surprised Jay didn’t get rookied, he probably tired out towards the end of the season but some of the games he played this year were outstanding.

Hopefully another year developing in the VFL will do him good and he gets a shot at it.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
