That whole trade has a big whiff about it to me Lucifer. Either that ankle is a serious problem or Mcarthy is the worst negotiator in known history. We managed to do better than that in offloading Watts!

If his ankle was a serious problem then why have they offered him 4 years.......very fishy.

I despise Geelong, but I do feel they are within their rights to be seething about the Kelly trade.  I know there are extenuating family circumstances, but the fact that he is wanting to go back to WA for family reasons, but is only willing to go to one club is farcical.

Only wanting to go to one of the two Perth clubs means the family circumstances reason is total bull [censored].

Scully understands lying and subterfuge to get where he wants (or get paid the most) better than most. It would b of zero surprise to me to see him play 16 plus games next year.

This deal should 100% be investigated by the AFL. Don’t accept anything said about his ankle on face value..Scummy is  as crooked as they come.

Fancy Gil employing Damien Barrett full time at the AFL. Take out the bloke who always pots you and put him alongside you.....

doesnt make much sense does it..

However Ive heard from a number of sources its really not in good knick.  Time will tell

Dicky knee O'Meara now Scully, hopefully its Hawthorn who are losing the plot, be nice to see them make the 8 again only to have the both of them unavailable thru injury, get knocked straight out and all the hawthorn faithful say "2020 when we have a fit team..."

Did Richmond miss out on Polly as well?

Where does that leave Trump? Does the analogy involve a Russian hotel room in his case?

Would the reason for the 4 years be more based on that was when he was contracted till with GWS?

I heard somewhere they have 9 players over 30 next season.  I hope their playing falls off a cliff like ours did 12 years ago.  Furthermore,  so sick of this Clarkson being the messiah crap.  A bit like you, I hope the high risk recruitment plays thay the Hawks have made come back to bit them, Clarkson gets the sack, and we transfer the Norm Smith curse to them for another 50+ years, hereby to be know as the Alistair Clarkson curse.

It's a long, long fall off that cliff as we well know at Demonland.

That was only 2?

Yep. They increased it by two, but the 4th year is contingent on games played in the other 3. Although, as someone pointed out , if they cant get him up in year 2 he’ll just be retired most likely anyway... so risk isn’t as big as it sounds. Still reckon he’ll “miraculously” be there round 1 but we’ll see.

Im concerned about how much power the players have now in general at trade time tbh. Someone needs to be looking after the overall health of the clubs and the equality of the comp. players as individuals or player managers have no such care.

Its 3 years with a trigger.

Get out for Hawks is that if the ankle does not come good and struggles he can retire a la Dane Swan and get a settlement of most of the following year of his contract which is not include in the salary cap.

I don’t agree with that. Wanting to go home and not wanting to go to Freo aren’t mutually exclusive positions. “I want to go home” and “I want to go home at all costs” are different propositions. The inability to get a deal done with West Coast means he’s faced with two poor choices: not make it home, or go to Freo, and he chose.

It doesn’t discredit his desire to get home, it just means it was trumped by his desire not to play for Fremantle. Who could blame him?

True but the problem is that unless he gets delisted, it’s unlikely that can find a way out of Port Adelaide. His name doesn’t feature in the recent AFL article about out of contract players and hence, it looks like he will remain at Alberton.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
