You can't be serious. Mahoney could not have played it anymore on the down low if he tried. Basically said nothing publically except our non negotiable is two first round picks. Which, by the way was a public statement of how highly we rate jessie.

For christ sake jessie 'toured their facility'. How could he keep freos interest out of the public domain?

Just saying, if this outcome was a strong possibility then the deal wouldn't have been considered as it is a severe let down to Jesse

Umm Greg Denham announced it was on weeks ago.

Sorry GYM can't have this. If anything our reputation is enhanced.

We made it abundantly clear what was required to get the deal done and didn't play any silly games. Rock solid. No leaks and no stupid posturing. In short, honest. A good club to deal with.

Freo on the other hand clearly leaked stuff to the media and allowed silly stories to get legs. Then walked back on a commitment to jessie by low balling him. A [censored] club to deal with.

One thing I am really hating is the borderline character assassination of jessie. He's our player. Get the [censored] around him.

I agree with your points, which I think describe how we handled the situation after it was made public

What I'm saying is that the result is a fail we would have wished to avoid, and I think there'll be lingering consequences for us into 2019, the least of which will be constant media focus/distraction and added pressure on a guy who'd prefer to avoid the spotlight

But surely you understand we could not have prevented it becoming public? If for no other reason the MFC is only one of many 'actors' in this drama.

You have to factor in that Ross Lyon was on a hiding to nothing if he took another player with off-field issues and if it backfired as it did for him with Lovett, Sylvia and Bennell, it was bye-bye Ross.

I was hoping that we would nail a deal for Andrew Brayshaw and pick 11 (onpassed for May) and have given them our future second rounder in return which I felt was pretty fair, but alas it ain't happening.

The only good thing is that Jesse clearly knows (as Dusty found out a few years ago), that the interest in damaged off-field goods is not high. Maybe as Dusty did to devastating effect, he will knuckle down and try to show he really is deserving of another top-end contract with us. He has the talent. It's just the application.

If he doesn't figure life out, then he might as well be Jack Potts next season, just waiting to be released for a second rounder at season's end.

Hopefully though we can still do a second round deal with the Suns for KK as he was a ripper and it's worth a shot to see if we can right him and maybe if they decide they really don't care too much about May, they will accept our No.1 pick next season for him.

This situation is a massive fail on behalf of the MFC. We've publicly shopped an A grade player and it has ended in any embarrassing debacle and given air time to so called personal 'issues' in the public arena.

While it may seem fine now as Bell and Co are publicly shamed as the cause, I imagine Jesse can't be happy and I suspect consequences of this mess to linger into 2019 for the MFC.

Hate to be somewhat of a bubble burster, but if we all really valued and rated Hogan, we’d all be celebrating from this outcome

instead we’re all bashing Freo

Of course, I'm not saying that at all

But Freo low balling and then pulling out is something we clearly didn't forsee when we publicly started discussing the possibility of Jesse leaving.

If we had then surely we would have played things differently and trotted out the "required player, under contract, has not officially requested a trade" lines publicly until an appropriate offer was made/accepted.

Anyhow, after [censored] everyone off, my main point is that I don't think it'll be plain sailing/happy camping for 2019 after all this.

really happy the boys at the dees supported jesse throughout this whole ordeal.

If jones and co. had acted the way tex walker acted when Lever wanted to leave then we would be f'ed. But jesse can come back to the dees and we will wrap our arms around him. That's the culture of this club now, a culture we can be proud of.

5 and 23 is a credit to our football department for their willingness to take unders in order to satisfy Hogan's desire to return home. It sounds like we did all we could on our end. We put Hogan's wishes ahead of the clubs needs. When contract time comes we can only hope Jesse factors that gesture in.

I highly doubt we would take Picks 5 & 23 for Hoges...  if any semblance of truth, I think something else attached... like Ed Langdon, or other player... Plus we have to add on another later pick for Freo, to balance out some sort of deal.

They have it on the front of SEN website that we would have taken pick 6 and a future second rounder. Ridiculous, but I believe it. If it were enough to get May I think that was all they cared about.

Oh, I hadn't seen that, So it must be true then,  if SEN has it up as Godspell.

Never ever doubt SEN...  or they'l come and hide-out in your Wheelie-Bin out front... and haunt your house for you, whilst you sleep.!
