It's actually quite reassuring as I see our lot just sitting quietly ( relatively ) whilst these other peanuts are playing silly buggers.

Once playtime is over and the cordial has worn off I'm sure pens and paper will come out.

Still...it does look like some aren't much past crayons doesn't it ;)

It is understandable that Freo would want to have a presence at the top of this draft, just to sell hope and paint the picture that a rebuild is actually happening.

I've muttered it before but I'm becoming more confident about it, I think Freo's 2019 first pick (plus this year's 5ish) makes sense as a fair way to flip a coin on whether it is two very high picks for Hogan or one very high and one fairly high.

And I like the idea of letting Jason Taylor have at least some shot in the first half of the draft each year.

This could get dizzy - because we 'May' end up trading our own 2019 first pick while retaining the one Freo gives us.

Anyway, I think it has been 500 posts on this htread since I last contributed so I figured I'd just throw some randomness in to celebrate how useful the thread has been.

Freo wontt accept pick 4 for Neale. Looks like theyre getting themselves and us more

So they think pick 5 will get them Hogan. I wouldn't entertain it even if they give us their first in 2019 with Jess in the team it will be  pick 8 or 9 on a weaker draft. I say f them & make Hogan honour his contract & try 4 a premiership. 4get May.

Relax everyone. Freo list manager Rosich just posturing and peacocking before trade week kicks off. Gotta look tough for the fans.

Truth is it’s the club that doesn’t come out with empty bluster and bravado that usually has the whip hand. Freo will end up accepting pick 4 for Neale plus a sweetener, and Melbourne will get its two firsts for Hogan. Likely to be pick 5 and Freo’s 2019 first rounder.

We add May to the back six for next season and then let Taylor work some magic with two choice first round picks at the 2019 draft. Have a crack at the flag next year by all means but keep adding young talent to the squad as we go. That’s the key to remaining a powerhouse for the next decade.

You think after this [censored] show that freo, Gcs & Melb will keep their players? Not a chance for me. Freo are trying to lowball us, yes. I think theyll be asking for brisbanes pick 22 which they'll give to us with Pick 4.  I think we'll demand Freos 2019 2nd round pick speculatively 24 again. So 4, 22, 24. Thats 4 & 8 in points value. I just dont think 4 and 5 will happen. Its somewhere in between.

We could only trade up if the holders of top picks are willing to trade but we have live pick trading this year, so this should be easier. GCS will almost certainly hold picks 2 & 3 and the SA clubs might look to deal given two of the top prospects are from SA. And Carlton may be willing to part with pick 1 to GWS to get Shiel. There are also a number of FS and Acadamy players available, so there will be the ability to package picks to move up or down the draft.

In saying this, I think we have recently shown good ability to draft well with lower picks. so I don't think we should be scared of trading Hogan for a combination of lower picks as long as they aggregate points equate to our valuation of Hogan. If anything, a good drafting team is able to produce greater value with lower picks.

Freo currently hold #5 (which will move to #6) and nothing else of value this year.

Realise it’s worked well for us in the past but not sure about aggregation and lower picks this year. Looks like a few “Rolls Royce”  units in picks 1-6.

Forget the strong draft/weak draft groupthink, Pick 5 this year & Pick 8 next year is a fair deal for Hogan. If that’s the compromise we should take it. Watch Jason Taylor add two absolute rippers to our list next season with picks 8 & 18.

I reckon it’s an even 50/50 split. Freo took the car out of the garage then we took over the wheel halfway to Perth.

I would be concerned taking Freo's 2019 first rounder.

With Hogan and Lobb, they have some real talent on their list and could make a huge jump up the ladder.

Fyfe, Hogan, Lobb, Brayshaw, Cerra, both Hills, Walters, Sheridan, Wilson, Blakley, Langdon are all good/great players, plus some i don't know or may come out of no where to have a big 2019.

I hear u brother.

The confusing part of all this is that Freo, by acquiring Hogan are preparing to have another crack at finals/flag. If so it would be inconceivable, in the same draft to get rid of Neale. They intend to have both on their list next year and will offer us 5 and next years 1st and maybe 3rd. We will hope GCS accept Freos 2019 pick for May, we will have other options for Mr kk then Taylor can still use pick 5 on whoever he has identified, Rankine or other.

What’s more staggering is that we get pick 5 for Hogan that then goes to GC for May and we are waiting in that case until next year to bring a kid in what is a weaker draft than this year. If we take a future pick we are dissing ourselves. We started at two top ten picks this year. Why are we now pondering taking a future 1st ? Is it because the media have talked it down? Am I missing something? Will GC take the future 1st for May ? Are we able to trade that future first since we did so last year? We are turning over 11 blokes . Where are we filling these list spots ? With what ?

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
