Hibberd is partial to a bit of soreness, so it’s probably just general management. Fingers crossed. While losing him wouldn’t be ideal, half-back also happens to be where we’re best equipped to cover anyway with the likes of J.Smith and Hunt primed and ready. It wouldn’t be a game changer.

Great to hear Bernie’s firing. If he’s ready it’s hard to see him getting selected in the firsts, but Casey have a huge PF this week and having him in would help enormously.

Did forget to mention that Joel Smith was actually part of the main squad along with JKH instead of the guys who played at Casey when they split off.

Groups have split to backs, forwards and mids.

No noticeable player position change. But i reckon Joel Smith will come under serious consideration this week. Moving well and his skills are actually quite good. Hitting targets where some have been a bit hit and miss in these conditions.

Bernie now testing out the shoulder with a tackling bag.

Reckon he'll be right to go this week.

Dazzle, does the Weid have a slight more aura of self confidence about himself?

I truly hope he gets a slight swagger from a Friday night, belief in himself should be high.

Especially if Hibbo has more than a bit of soreness.

He had some swagger last week. Looked pretty aggro and fired up too. Gave a mouthful to Danger at one point after smashing him in a tackle. I said earlier in the year that he had got much bigger.

He seems to have got bigger again. Seriously big unit now - with a very long reach. Developing into a handy second ruck as well. Which is perfect as it allows TMac to stay in the forward line, Hoges to play as a roaming center half forward  and max to drop into the hole down back.

Article up on AFL on Hibberd leaving the track but Melbourne downplaying it saying it’s management and apart of his program (training indoors)

Anyone have anymore information?

Very calm and measured he is.

But he looks like a man now. The way he moves and marks with his hands outreach reminds me a lot of Josh Kennedy from West Coast.

Wow.  wouldn't that be a long term comparison to love!

Look he wasn't limping or anything. Was doing doing timed laps at a reasonable pace, so i think its more of a management thing.

From what you saw DD36, would you suggest any players as ins or outs, based upon where they trained or what they did?

I think we'll go unchanged, but the only change that i could see happening is maybe JKH for Spargo, and Smith for Hibbard if he doesn't get up.

Other then that i think we'll most likely go unchanged.

Heard rumours Hibbo looks sore and isn't training with the group.  Hoping to hear some reports on that!

I thought he didn't look too good. Arrived late as well.

Great stuff DD36.  Any 'feel' on the vibe / enthusiasm, camaraderie shown this morning?  Are they still up and about like recent weeks?

They looked switched on and focused. The enthusiasm was there but also very measured.

Training thread in mid September! Love it.

Weird isn't it? I'm still waiting for the stories of players barfing on each other, or photos of two moronic fringe players dressed in completely inappropriate costumes, that arguably end up costing them their careers. Training?!

Nash you left out dwarf tossing. Perhaps that should be throwing, either way inappropriate.

He said on Triple M prior to our game last Friday that he was expecting to play VFL this weekend.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
