Who could forget Victoria beating the All-Stars by a point in a riveting finish?

Me.

does anyone watch this stuff and if so why? Not critical... just curious

The game is for charity which is what makes it worthwhile but otherwise its a novelty to watch fat blokes running around on a footy field and listening to bad commentary.

Basically, it's cringeworthy but for a good cause.

Care and interest factor?

About as much as Western Sydney’s community interest in GW$$, or of SEQ community interest in GC$$.

As pointed out above, fat old has beens and a few faux celebrities running around pushing their agendas - not my idea of fun.

I used to watch it during its first couple of years.  Before the celebrities and comedians took over it used to be great to watch some former players running around.  They seemed to take it a bit more seriously then too.

Now it all feels a bit too self-indulgent for me to sit through... but they’re raising money, so good on them.

I haven't seen such poor skills or such bruise free footy since... Well, since Carlton's last game

That Smith guy from the All Stars could be worth a look for a late mature aged recruit. He hasn’t done much tonight but they showed his highlights reel at the half time break, great aerial skills and he is obviously just having a bad night.

The AFL's first father/son/father selection

I used to love watching the old players go.  Was always great to see the amazing skills on overweight, unfit blokes, who still somehow have an innate ability to find space and move like athletes,  and some who seem to have fallen apart the weeks after retiring.

It has become a bit sillier now and isn't high on my list of things to do.

I'd gladly watch a SOO or other rep match composed of players from the 10 teams that didn't make finals.

I watched, but it was just a bit of filler for a weekend with no footy (apart from VFL which I don’t see in Sydney).

Did the organisers not think that perhaps, as it was being played in Adelaide, if they presented an Allstars vs South Australia game, they might have got a few more punters through the gates?

Mind boggling stupidity.

Watched Storm tonight...

Got beaten but rested a few in the lead up to finals.

With Billy retiring at the end of the season I hope they can send him out with a much deserved premiership.

Drinkwater came into to replace Billy tonight & it was a promising debut. They keep producing players.

Sorry, sidetracked.

Sport is a serious business, there's no skin in the game then there's no game.

The legends game doesn't interest me in the slightest...

Disappointed to wake up this morning only to discover that the Vics were beaten by the All Stars.

AFL greats re-live their glory days as All Stars defeat Victoria in the EJ Whitten Legends Game at Adelaide Oval

The highlight must surely have been Shaun Smith playing against Joel Smith but I wonder how the younger Smith is going to manage the task of flying home from Adelaide in time to make it to the Casey game?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
