Diamond_Jim 12,772 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 (edited) Hell... we had a road to the finals thread for the last few years ... why not a road to the big one. So how do we want to get there. Do we want our prelim against WC in Perth or the Tigers at the G and if so what has to happen. Personally I want the Tigers because it would mean that for the fist time in my life we would be going into a GF as the favourites or at least equal favourites. Over to you gurus of the ladder prediction world. Can the Tiges game even happen if the results go to form this weekend and we win/lose to GWS. Edited August 22, 2018 by Diamond_Jim 2 Quote

At this point I've got us playing Geelong in an elimination final, Hawthorn in a semi, and the Pies in a prelim. It won't be easy! 9 Quote

So who do you have for the GF on that basis PS.. the strange thing is that we would be a good chance in every game ? Edited August 22, 2018 by Diamond_Jim 1 Quote
Demonland 74,430 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 There are many permutations that can happen. If we can get to the final dance the one team I would love to be up against would be the Eagles. Imagine the hype if it is us vs Collingwood in the Granny. There is still a long way to go first. praha 11,267 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 (edited) Ideally: Sydney to beat Hawthorn. Melbourne to beat GWS. This would set up a Richmond v Sydney, and Melbourne v Geelong in the first week. Provided Richmond get the job done, and we do against Geelong, it would pit us against Sydney at the SCG, an ideal scenario imo. Get the job done there, and this would set us up for a Prelim matchup vs WC in Perth, or the Pies at the MCG. IMO, the best case scenario would be to avoid Richmond at the MCG, and Hawthorn as well. EDIT: obvs we'd have to play Richmond at the MCG at some point, which just prefer it to be in the GF. Edited August 22, 2018 by praha 3 2 Quote

Would love to be proven wrong but we got pasted in our match ups against them earlier this season. 2 Quote

Have been overseas for the last three months and as an AFL member I can go to any of the games in Melbourne. Was thinking of a feast of football but other than our game none of the Melbourne games have much attraction. May take the long trip to Casey to get my early footy fix. Quote
Dee Zephyr 19,311 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 You guys have it all wrong. Port will beat the Bummers and the Suns will knock off Geelong down at the Cattery. Collingwood will beat Freo and after we beat the Giants it’s a Melbourne v Port elimination. ? 1 2 Quote
Skuit 10,031 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 It's going to be a pretty intimidating final 8 in terms of recent success and finals experience. The teams represent 20 out of 24 grand finalists going back 12 years. Plus a well-stocked GWS. 1 1 Quote

I think Geelong is the "easiest" to beat of the lot and we didn't get three job done either time. GWS is scary in its quality but with some injuries and their lack of history in finals they could go either way. Still not an easy prospect. WCE and Sydney are probably the flakiest of the other 7 finalists. But even then on their day are very strong. WCE probably has the better talent but might struggle with injuries and suspensions. Sydney have the mental strength to do anything. I do think we're the wild card though. Could go out easily. But also coud catch others off guard. I honestly think draw and venue's will play a large role in the finals. Unfortunately we've played our best football away from the G, but there's where we'll likely play. Perhaps the best outcome could be Geelong at the G, Sydney in Sydney then WCE in Perth? Although a MFC v CFC prelim at the G would be a thriller! Edited August 22, 2018 by deanox 4 Quote

Sure, Richmond are favourities but they are only 5-10% in front of the pack. They are very gettable. Is it our turn... who knows... there's some big holes on our game plan when it comes to playing in the major league as we all know and whatever they are we've got a week to fix em. A few weeks of straight kicking may deliver the holy grail........... here's hoping. 1 Quote

The slightest bit of a variation in a Game Plan with throw them off, Dees and Hawks have not played against Rich for a long time. Would love to see how we go with Viney, Tmac and our new structured forward line. Edited August 22, 2018 by Win4theAges Quote

DubDee 26,674 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 We’ve won 5 out of the last 7 with two narrow losses. We are in good form and belief is starting to come. If we beat GWS and keep the roll going, I back us against anyone in finals 1 1 Quote

If we beat GWS and keep the roll going, I back us against anyone in finals It’s interesting to consider but should we win this week our form coming into the finals will be as good as anybody’s bar the tigers. Particularly getting wins over 2nd at their home and (should we beat GWS) a top 4 aspirant. Although I think it’s unlikely the Pies could well fall into the trap we’ve done too many times to count, looking too far ahead. I’m glad we’re playing a finals bound side as it’s an opportunity to get a further scalp and more confidence. Playing a lower ranked side can sometimes have you not paying close enough attention to what’s in front of you. 1 Quote
GCDee 3,202 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 I honestly can see Collingwood choke on the weekend. Melb v Gws and Sydney v hawks all playing for a top 4 spot. Means we could have the tigers in a qualifying final week one. Quote
Skuit 10,031 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Whichever the match-up, round one of the finals is going to require some mental fortitude. Geelong: dominating much of the past three matches and still failing to win. GWS: would have lost to them just a fortnight earlier, and at home to a likely more depleted side. Sydney: the only draft-origin player in our squad to have experienced victory against them is Jones. Quote
