If we lose to Freo....

Featured Replies

I've already switched off mentally for the year and won't turn back on until we've booked a spot in September. I counted last week that I've attended around 272 matches in my life since 1991, for 94 wins, 178 losses. I haven't seen us win a final in person since 2002. I've sat through 19 10+ goal losses, have never seen us beat Geelong live, have never attended a match where we've beaten a team with Buddy Franklin in it, lost countless matches where we've been outright favourites. And I pay $600+ per year.

I've been uninspired all year, and switched off in my head after round 23 last year. I care less, but still get frustrated.

If they lose against Freo, I'll be the same as I am now. If they win (and I think they will, comfortably), I'm still not validating my bandwagon ticket. I've earned my VIP pass. I'm not cashing it in yet.

You opened yourself up for this.

This was you after we beat Gold Coast in Alice Springs last year:

Still better than losing

one can win quietly and get better at the same time

the game you refer was awful, but we won.

No champagne was cracked

The answer is simple...

The bloke who had the door closed on him in this scene will be pretty similar to how we will all feel should we lose.

I've already lost interest in the season. Good sides have destroyed us this year and losing to Stkilda was the final straw for me. Some people it was over against the pies, some it was over when we lost to port but for me, it was losing to the saints and i don't think we deserve to play finals to the point where I'd almost prefer not to so we work hard in the off season and not think we've made it, bernard tomic style because we came 8th and lost first week

Disagree, not making finals is imo not anywhere near as effective a motivator as making them. That's the first test. We need to get there so we know what it's like.

Traumatised and very angry!  Trust further crushed.

Sums up exactly how I feel.

Serves half of this forum right for talking about our top 4 chances. This whole season I've just wanted to say 'shut the  f#$k up' to those people because so many people were getting ahead of themselves.

Lucky Goodwin doesn't coach in the MLB, NFL, or NBA as he'd be sacked on the spot if they lose to 2 sides that are over $7 to win in consecutive weeks.

Most depressing read of the year.  And to think there are thousands upon thousands just like you.

This club, I tell ya......

Careful, Prodee will rip you to shreds for considering that history is remotely contected to this season.

You have been warned.

I have been a paid up member since 1987 and a Member of the MCG since 1982.

After last weekend, my Membership for next year is up in the air, make finals and show some guts. I join happily.

Capitulate for the last 8 games, pizz their pants and say it’s all too hard and i will spend those $100’s somewhere else next year

it’s quite simple

So if we drop out of the 8, I guess you will serve the other half of the forum that had us finishing 5-8.

Remind me again how supporters feelings actually influence on field performance?

I’ll complain that we have games to Frost, Stretch, Garlett and Spargo ?

He umpired the first 3 rounds alongside 'the Raz' and then wasn't seen again until last week. One too many over-rules from 50m away of his poor decisions? I'm sure every over-rule is like a blow to the head for these clowns.

It looks as though the AFL was trialling umpire 'teams' in the first 3 rounds. I only had a quick look but the games I saw had the same 3 umpires together week on week. Obviously failed in whatever measure they were testing, I wonder what that may have been.

I actually love the umpire teams idea. One of biggest problems is not inconsistency between weeks it's inconsistency between ends.

Umpire the games together and then coach and review together.  Get the team on the same page.

That being said Razor and Pannel are two of the worst in my opinion. With Nichols close to them both.

It would also make it much easier to isolate two people to influence their decision making.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
