Have posted before the ditching of the Darwin game which I thoroughly support will almost certainly result in the loss of around 5k of   memberships that would have been sold to the NT govt as part of the contra deal for their sponsorship. So we get both a revenue loss and a nominal membership drop.

Pity about the abysmal 2019 on field performance. If we had made top 4 we would take it in our stride.

We have to take a Hit for 2019. That’s life

It should not have happened to that level, regardless of the high surgery numbers last Summer.
The Membership Numbers in the NT have always been dodgy. I have called the Club twice over the years to get a figure and have been sidetracked each time.
The City of Melbourne is growing weekly, we need to be part of that growth.

How could any MELBOURNE supporter actually want us to play home games interstate....??

Hawthorn has done it rather successfully and of course North like us are desperate for $$

GCS play in Cairns.

Footscray play on Mars and others even play in China.

It's the way. The trick is to make it work and Darwin just doesn't.

That aside I really admire the Socceroos. Last Thursday they played on a cold wet night in Canberra and then last night they were playing in the humidity of Taiwan and of course many are back to Europe for games on the coming weekend.

Fair enough, but in that case for you games at the G are interstate

Unless the club specifically says we'll be playing 10 home games a year at the MCG (which they haven't), I bet this home game will be at Marvel.

Still better than Darwin

I don't mind docklands anymore. I'm in the northwest suburbs now so docklands is actually easier for me to get to than the G. Easier when taking kids too, can't find parking close to the G anymore and you don't have to worry about them sitting in the cold/wind/rain.

Fantastic news!  the impact of players fitness is just too great

and we need every advantage we can get especially in a 22 round season.

100% it is. Miles better than Darwin.

A pity of most of our fans won't turn up to it.

Do MCC members get free entry to Docklands? I think not which drops the crowd by 7-8k.

The other issue is that the second level which is the prime viewing area is reserved (read empty) seating.

If we are performing I will go along but it is a rather soulless venue.

Presumably we will also be there against it's tenants for their home games if we have them...Essendon, Carlton Saints and Footscray

MCC members most certainly don't get free entry, so you're right in the drop off right there. AFL members do though.

You'd hope all standard members that have free entry would get along to it...because well...they still get free entry.

Hopefully (if we do get a home game there) we can play one of the higher drawing interstate clubs there such as Brisbane, Sydney or Adelaide to retain some sort of home ground advantage,  and at the same time not record a disastrously low crowd. However I suspect you're right in that it will be a Marvel tenant.

I found this years trip to Darwin particularly pleasant and i was looking forward to a trip in 2020  .The weather is beautiful that time of year and the people hospitable .We play the stadium better than we play most grounds and despite the heartbreaking loss to Adelaide this year we ,in my view anyway ,had developed a  genuine home ground advantage .I doubt the final decision was ours and was a result of the demise of the Northern Thunder .The AFL  are concerned with the drop in draftees from the NT and saw a need to align NTFL with a geographically  closer club .I understand the members support of  moving back to the G and the reasoning  of the AFL is generally sound but I am still a little saddened by the news

As per my #292 post earlier in this thread, our Darwin game was dumped after the AFL announced their rescue package for the Suns. They now have first dips on the Darwin zone, we were effectively sent on our way by the AFL and thanks for your help. Perts announcement of listening to our fans calling for a MCG game is just so much corporate weasel word spin, we were always leaving, at least I hope so! The worst outcome would be for us to be playing there as the away team.

So you want the club to say "we will get 10 games at the G next year", despite what Pert said as per the below?

Not only is this in the article:

“Supporters have made it very clear to the Club they would love to see the Darwin home game return to the MCG as soon as possible, so they can watch their team live and share in the excitement,” he told Melbourne Media.

“This is something we have been working on with the AFL for quite some time. However, it was important the timing coincided with the opportunity to return the game to our traditional home, the MCG, rather than other alternatives.”

But if you watch the video, Pert says (verbatim): "Great news for Melbourne supporters and members today, I can announce that the Melbourne Football Club will be bringing one of its Northern Territory home games back to the MCG"

You're concerned that what will actually happen is we'll bring the Darwin game home to the G but then lose a pre-existing MCG home game to Marvel?

Which would make what Pert is saying completely redundant and misleading to our members?

The fixture will tell the story. The fact that he technically didn’t announce that we’re playing 10 games at the G leaves me a little sceptical (even though I don’t mind home games at Marvel)

If we end up still playing 9 home games at the G and 1 at Marvel, then yes, he’s mislead the members and should’ve just announced that we’ve withdrawn home games from Darwin.

Ofcourse, we could end up playing the 10 at the G, no home games at Marvel and I’ll be the first to put my hand up and say I was wrong.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
