We may well find that the internal candidates who missed out would be considering their options. They may have to wait another 5 or more years for another opportunity at MFC.  That’s a lifetime these days. Perfect opportunity for another club to chase Mahoney.  Collingwood?  Eddie would love the [censored] for tat.

You've got to love a bitter Mick Malthouse taking pot shots at Pert already, claiming they never really 'got along', although you would believe that Pert wouldn't be the first or the last person not to get along with angry Mick.

And Mick Malthouse has apparently today slammed the appointment of Gary Pert as our new CEO. In my opinion, that just confirms the club has made the right decision!

Malthouse is the biggest [insert 4-letter word of your choice, one never to be uttered in polite company] in football.

Next week Malthouse will saying, straight faced, that he has never criticised Gary Pert in his entire life.

I genuinely no nothing about why Pert left Collingwood, but I could see that the review that Collingwood undertook came to the conclusion that there needed to be a change at the top which could have meant the President or the CEO...and the President made sure it wasn't him.

The review was like a parliamentary enquiry. The outcome was pre-ordained. (As in, the president would come out of it squeaky clean.) As you say, there was no way the bloke commissioning the report was going to have it say that he should be replaced.

I don't know why Pert left but I can easily believe that he was [censored] off, as a lot of CFC members were (and are), at the autocratic ways of their president. Example (one of many): the Gubby Allen fiasco.

Whether he'll be good or bad for us, only time will tell, but the way he left CFC is to be taken with several handfuls of salt.

Just found these tweets.  It seems Tom Browne has backtracked a bit on his comment about our President 'thumbing his nose' at Jackson:

So last night's media ooh, aah stuff was probably just a knee jerk reaction to give themselves something to write about as they missed the scoop.  Today, wiser heads prevail

I think PJ would be ecstatic that Pert is the man to grow the club after he rebuilt the foundations.

Both were topline operators of big clubs

Not sure why some people are worried Pert comes from 11 years at Collingwood.

Remember which AFL club Peter Jackson was at before us?  Now he is MFC royalty (in my book anyway).

I thought I saw somewhere that the club offices (and Demon Shop) were going to be closed on Friday presumably because we played on a public holiday last week and because of the bye weekend. The staff have probably been given the day off.

I have a feeling the club would have preferred to announce this on their own terms but it appears as if the media got  wind of this last night and ran with it and therefore due to the abovementioned we were not prepared to roll out the announcement the way we would have liked.

I hope the "leak" to the media isn't a step back to the old days and that "leak" isn't because of any disgruntled people.

PJ held a tight ship with tight lips and that was among the things I really liked about his tenure. Also the whole Roos thing and getting much better Sponsors.

“Held”... he’s still CEO until October, unless he pulls up stumps early. His watch.

Yep I was going to post that but the vibe was funny/negative so threw them up.

Jason Taylor has been in some ways a saviour for us and doesn't get enough credit, has an eye for talent hopefully as good as Stephen Wells in time.

I thought my love for Allen was bad but I think you take the cake!

I know Pert's not taking over as CEO until October. But is it possible he may commence with the club in another role (let's just call it deputy CEO for now) which allows a smooth transition?

And for the media know-it-alls who claim that this isn't a "succession plan", that's just bog-ignorance. A "succession plan" doesn't mean it has to be an internal appointment. It just means the CEO leaves with a new CEO already selected to take over. The alternative is what happens when the CEO leaves not at a time of his choosing or when a replacement CEO hasn't been selected before the CEO actually leaves, neither of which apply in this instance.

My understanding was that whoever took the job would get a thorough handing over from PJ. I didn't necessarily take that to mean that they would give it to someone internal and they would need to be handheld although that thought did cross my mind. I did not however even think about the possibility that someone with the vast AFL CEO experience that Pert has would take the role. Would he need to have such a hands on transition?

I think the media is reading into PJ's initial announcement, assuming it would be someone with little to no experience as CEO or CEO of an AFL club and thinking because we went for someone who comes "ready made" that PJ must be pissed off with the turn of events.

There may well be some ruffled feathers but I'm not taking some late night/late to the party/story tweets after missing the breaking/"leaking" of the story as gospel.

A little bit underwhelmed, Bb?

No, not at all. I was a Fitzroy supporter back in the Roos and Pert days  (and Osborne, Conlan etc etc, what a ride). I met him several times when he was playing and afterwards. A very impressive human being. He has the background and the skills. He upset some Collingwood staff? Show me a manager who hasn’t upset anyone, and I’ll show you a time serving slug.

I wish him well, but one person, even the CEO, can’t run a club, and I hope he can keep supporters, sponsors, staff and other stakeholders united and following the dream.

Had some contact with Pert when he was at Pies and I was working for a major sponsor. Fair to say he doesn’t lack confidence. Surprised at this appointment, but for the sake of MFC wish him all the best.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
