Vince will be better for the week off. His good games this season havenā€™t gottenĀ the plaudits they deserve and comingĀ up against a much more experienced sideĀ I want him out there.

Jeffy is a bit of a puntĀ but when heā€™s on heā€™s a game changer and this game is all in.

Did you know at 1.55 a couple weeks back which Melbourne had shown up against the Bulldogs?Ā

Or the game v Norf?

Is this game make or break for us? I just have a feeling we lose, it makes top 8 chances a lot harder. Looking at the run home for clubs like Hawthorn and Collingwood they can easily jump and push us out. So nervous about Friday night.Ā

It's probably best to settle in with a nice red or single malt (With coke) and read a good book (give Westworld S2 a miss, what a write off) and dart in/out of the AFL app for an update. But then, my constitution is a bit brittle and don't want #2 in utero to sense the reek of utter frustration that barracking for the MFC has caused thus far. Not a good vibe.

A single malt with coke! Sacrilege you never never ever put anything in single malt.

I'm very relaxed about Friday's game. I think we have them covered. Only caveat is the umpires. Watch us get Nicholls and Wallace.

I'd have:
Petty for Vince - get a genuine CHB in to build the structure around, Vince the defender with the worst form
Garlett for Hannan - Hannan hasn't nailed the spot so back to flaky Jeff in the hope he can produce
Tim Smith for Pedersen - the 3 big talls plus Melksham/Petracca makes a top heavy forward line that doesn't tackle enough, the extra mobility/pressure of Smith helps
Tyson for Spargo - I didn't want to drop Spargs but the extra mid lets us keep Tommy forward and we get versatility with who goes inside/outside/forward. Probably should be Harmes or Petracca dropped but they have greater upside/flexibility. Strengthen our strength which has to be around the ball

FB: HibberdĀ  Ā OscarĀ  Ā Jetta
HB: J. SmithĀ  Ā PettyĀ  Ā Salem
C; TysonĀ  OliverĀ  Ā Fritsch
HF: ANBĀ  Ā HoganĀ  Petracca
FF: Melksham T McĀ  Garlett
Foll: GawnĀ  JonesĀ  Viney
Int: Lewis, Brayshaw, Harmes, T. Smith

Your tongue just before you take your first sip.Ā

Although I do prefer a little ice.Ā

Coke is simply poison never to be consumed. It is wonderful as a cleaning agent.Ā Ā

Unless it is more single malt

I once heard from an old Scot, that it takes a "just a teardrop of water" to bring out the best in a good single malt.Ā  After all these years following our team OD, you'veĀ probably been shedding tears into your scotch, and thoroughly enjoying it,Ā without even knowing quite why.

Hmm!Ā  I fear that would make it a tad too salty!

id be tempted to throw Vince in the middle and tag wines out of the game.Ā

Ā

Out: Pedo, HannanĀ

In: Frost, Garlett (Frost to play forward as seen in training this week)

We've matched up very well on Port in the past and also play Adelaide oval very well. It's narrow ground is similar to Etihad, which suits us to a T.Ā

Melbourne by 42 points. Go Dees!

Agreed, since the Hawthorn game (except for the Adelaide game) our first quarters have been deeplorable.

Even though we have won our fair share of them? They haven't been our best quarter, but deplorable is way over the top.Ā

I always have one ice cube. That is my small amount of H2O.

BTW Chivas is not a single malt. Stick as much coke it as you want. Very strange but... Oh you mean coca cola!

Yar but it fairly raises eyebrows

like gyngells character in the 12th man - I'll have a schooner of drambuie thanks

Ā

geez who knew a throwaway line in jest would have so much legs

lucky I didn't mention the crowd favourite balvenie 12yo and lemonadeĀ

I don't care who is in or out. I just want 22 committed, tough, hard at contest players that ALL turn up to play on the one night for each other.Ā We need to get rid of the tag of under achievers, softies when big games are on. The last 2 losses to Magpies hurt big time and don't forget the Hawks and Tigers games.Need to win this and win it well to get monkey off us. Time is now Dees and the leaders must do that and lead.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullartonā€™s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Caseyā€™s three matches and, with Melbourneā€™s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next weekā€™s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forwardā€™s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasnā€™t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the teamā€™s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourneā€™s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season.Ā There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight.Ā Since that game, the Demonsā€™ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where theyā€™ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ā€˜G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sundayā€™s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
